
Glynn Smith – Captain - British
Captain Glynn is from Southampton, England a true nautical town, which is famous for its yacht races and regattas. Glynn started sailing at the age of 12 his first command was an 8 ft Optimist sailing dinghy. He continued to spend all his spare time at the local sailing club racing and cruising various sailing dinghies. He soon became the youngest senior sailing instructor in the UK teaching people from all walks of life sailing, windsurfing, power boating and many other outdoor activities. Glynn's first introduction into the private yachting world was in 1992 when he joined a classic sailing yacht in San Remo Italy, this opened up a whole new world for him. He soon moved up the ranks and took his first Captains position at the age of 23 on a Swan 46. Glynn sailed over 36,000 miles and visited 25 countries with the Swan, including Atlantic crossings and 2 Pacific crossings. One Pacific crossing was against the elements departing from Australia for San Diego; 8000 nautical miles against the wind and ocean currents. In 2000 Glynn's career moved forward with the addition of his girlfriend (now wife) joining him in the yachting world. Glynn has captained high profile racing yachts placing first in major regattas in the Mediterranean. After many years on sailing yachts he transitioned to motor yachts with his wife chartering in the Mediterranean, Bahamas Caribbean, USA, and Central America. His Wife and Baby are now in Fort Lauderdale, where he loves to be during his time off. Glynn has been in command of M/Y Katharine for the past year and will ensure his years of experience are dedicated to your enjoyment and safety.
Rosco Gallagher - Second Engineer – New Zealand
Rosco was born in New Zealand. He grew up and was schooled in Katikati, a small town on the north east of the north island, through school he followed a passion of Rowing through to a national level. Rosco left school at the age of seventeen and began an apprenticeship in Automotive Engineering, after four years the travel bug got a hold of him and took him to London where he started his OE, allowing Rosco to travel extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and many other countries. Rosco then spent a few years living in Australia before joining the yachting industry.
Fiona Downes - Chief Stewardess - South Africa
Fiona grew up on a farm in Elgin near Cape Town in South Africa. She loved her childhood spent on the farm, attending schools nearby in Somerset West. She has always loved travelling and took part in a school exchange in 2000 which allowed her to spend 6 months at a Catholic Boarding School in England. She then completed a degree in Arts, majoring in Psychology and Sociology at Stellenbosch University. Throughout Fi's school and university years she always took part in anything that she could organize! Her biggest passion lies in Event Coordination, which is what she would ultimately like to become involved in. She has always worked in the hospitality industry and this is what led her to the yachting. Fiona has thoroughly enjoyed the past 2 years onboard Motor Yacht Katharine as it involves two of her passions, people and travelling. Her whole family is in the Wine Industry and Fiona too has completed wine courses. She loves making Sushi and entertaining and looks forward to bringing smiles of appreciation to all guests under her charge.
