CREW PROFILE

Antara's very experienced and professional crew will take great care of your clients.
1. Captain: Robert (Johnno) Johnston
Age: 40
Nationality: British
Johnno is a very experienced, professional and personable charter captain. Johnno has been onboard Antara since December 2005 cruising both the Mediterranean including Croatia and the Greek isles and Caribbean. His previous command was aboard SY Mirabella V.
When not sailing, Johnno can be enjoying playing soccer, biking, or perhaps participating in the Speights Coast to Coast, the first multisport race in the world that traverses the South Island of New Zealand. He is also a gifted singer and guitarist but is so shy we never hear him play!

2. First Mate: Joseph Barnaby Gadsby "Barney"
Age: 28
Nationality: British
After spending 4 years aboard the 50 meter Perini Navis ...Is A Rose and SY Phyrne, Mr. Barnaby Gadsby is our newest crewmember and an MCA approved ‘Officer of the Watch’.
Barney has a depth of understanding of Perini Navi sailing boats that only comes from spending time onboard and years under sail. Having circumnavigated the globe on the 50 meter ketch, Phryne, he is obviously enjoying his environment as Antara is his third Perini Navi.
Barney has been a wilderness/multiactivity instructor both in the US and UK. With this background devoted to outdoor activities and water sports, along with Nick and Matteo, he will see you safe in any endeavor you may undertake on the water.
He is a most capable second in command.
When on vacation Barney enjoys traveling , having traveled widely, including the third world, sailing, mountain walking, climbing, fishing, swimming, music and landscape photography.
3. Chef:
4. Chief Stewardess:
5. Bosun/Deckhand: Nick Ackroyd
Age:23
Nationality:Australian
Nick joined Antara in June 2007. His previous experience included the 56m Perini SY Santa Maria and SY Mirabella V. In a past life, in Australia, Nick was a tennis coach and if this is your game, we have the opponent for you.
Nick joined Antara during the refit in Viareggio, Italy. This period of time allowed him to become very familiar with the boat, even before we set sail. A Perini Navi is not so difficult to sail, but it does require some very serious and continuous maintenance. Nick, along with the rest of the deck crew, keeps Antara running smoothly and looking exceptional. He has a ‘fair bit’ of big boat experience to draw from (having been in the Perini family prior to joining Antara) and fully understands the demands and requirements of a ‘Super Yacht’.

6. Engineer: Stephen "McGyver" Cobban
Age: 40
Nationality: South African
Languages: English, Africaans, and Italian
MCA ‘Y3’ Engineering Certificate
Steve has been the Engineer aboard SY Antara since December 2005. He previously was Engineer aboard the Mirabellas V and III. Steve has experience cruising in the Mediterranean and Caribbean including Greece, Croatia, Turkey. Steve loves to take guests for a ride on the inflatable toys or waterskiing. He also can rig up a thrilling spinnaker pole swing that all Antara's guests enjoy! He is a keen photographer who also enjoys snowboarding and diving.

7. Stewardess: Kristel Gossman
Age:
Nationality: Australia
Kristel has joined Antara January 2008 just previously of 50m Perini SY Perseus.
We are fortunate indeed to have Kristel join us as our second stewardess.
Leaving her home in Perth for adventure, Kristel is now well traveled on large yachts and is yet another crew member to have gained experience, previously, upon Perini Navi yachts. She has been a ‘Chief Stewardess’ in her own right and with her eye for presentation and background in Art and Design, Kristel will have you feeling very comfortable and leave you highly impressed.

8. Deckhand: Matteo Marelli
Age:
Nationality: Italian
Languages: Italian and English.
Matteo has been aboard Antara since June of 2006 joining her in Viareggio during her refit at the Perini Navi yard. He has cruised with Antara throughout the Med and Caribbean in 2007. Coming to us from Milan; he is the son of an Italian Butcher!
His enthusiasm for this seafaring life style is a joy to watch and is very contagious. Nothing is taken for granted, every landfall we make and every culture we touch is exciting & new to Matteo. You will find yourself looking upon the waves, birds, beaches and even the sky with a re-kindled and fresh appreciation. He took to ‘rope work’ with a passion and all the fancy mats, rope ladders and most of the splicing you see around the boat was produced by Matteo.
