Captain: Peter Martin

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Peter spent his vacations on the Cape where he found his love for the ocean. After working in the service industry during his early years, he quickly found himself in management positions. Having managed many successful nightclubs and restaurants he finally opened his own Portuguese restaurant with a childhood friend. After four years in the restaurant business he moved to Florida where he discovered the wonderful world of yachting. Peter is well-known from the popular charter yachts ARIOSO and UNFORGETTABLE where he was Captain for over 11 years. For the last 12+ years he has traveled extensively along the East Coast of the USA, Bahamas and Caribbean. Peter and his wife Bronwyn have been a team since 2012 where they first met onboard ARIOSO. He is extremely competent, enthusiastic, and loves utilizing his hospitality background on charter. Peter holds his MCA Master 3000-ton license and looks forward to using his vast knowledge of yachting and chartering to create a safe and memorable vacation for all onboard motor yacht Lady J.

He also has a degree in marketing and a Diploma in advertising/brand management. Jarryd started yachting in 2009 and since then he has completed five Atlantic crossings and sailed around the Caribbean, Bahamas, U.S.A, Mediterranean, and the Gulf of Mexico totaling around 60,000+ nm. Jarryd currently holds the Officer of the Watch (OOW) and is working towards his Masters license. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, traveling, adventures, diving , surfing and long boarding.

First Officer (Temporary): Ken Robinson
First Officer (Temporary): Ken Robinson

Ken was born in the coastal town of Durban, South Africa. He grew up loving the ocean, fishing, wakeboarding and surfing. He studied Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Stellenbosch for 3 years and then moved on to work in the mountains of Northern California as a ski and snowboard instructor. After deciding he preferred the heat over the snow, he joined yachting in Florida. His yachting career has led him to the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Indian oceans. He regards Seychelles as his favorite destination on his travels this far. He plans to finish his Officer of the Watch 3000t license by the end of 2018, a stepping stone that will hopefully lead him one day to a captain’s position. His interests off the water include running, going to gym, hiking and off road mountain biking.

Chief Engineer: Robert Buchar
Chief Engineer: Robert Buchar

Robert Buchar hails from New Jersey, USA and currently holds a Y4 Engineering license from the MCA and a 100GT Captain’s license from the US Coast Guard. At the age of 24, Bobby moved to the beach and started working for his brother as a Marine Diesel Mechanic. This exposure resulted in a love for the ocean and a desire to become a full time Marine Engineer. Bobby quickly moved from being land based to working full time on boats- initially in design and construction for a boat building company out of New Jersey, and then joined a 75' Viking Sports fish as Captain/ Engineer, cruising New York to South Florida from 2007 to 2010. Bobby has never looked back and has concentrated on his career as an Engineer—13 years in the business and has completed multiple trans-Atlantic crossings. Bobby enjoys fishing.

Chef: James Howard
Chef: James Howard

James grew up with a passion for cooking and knew at a young age that he wanted to be a chef. He learned most of his culinary techniques from the French at the age of 16 after training in a Michelin star restaurant combined with a culinary school in Cannes, France. He then moved on to work in a traditional French restaurant in the mountains of Auron in the French Alps. After the season ended, he sought out bluer pastures and landed his first yacht job in 2006 sailing around the Mediterranean and acquiring more culinary knowledge. From there, James moved to Ireland where he worked in Dublin for a year at a French-Irish Bistro called "L’Gueuleton”, which is one of the finest and most successful restaurants in Ireland.

It was in 2009 when James landed his first head chef position at a French Gastro-Bistro in Paris at the young age of 21. Once James overhauled the menu, the restaurant went from being a cute, hole-in-the wall establishment to being voted ‘7th Best’ restaurant in all of Paris on TripAdvisor and winning numerous other local and international accolades.

After two and a half years of success in Paris, James once again decided to return to the yachting scene. Since then he has traveled 6 continents learning their culinary traditions and techniques.

James joins Lady J fresh from a 3-month trip traveling and discovering the culinary delights of south-east Asia.
