First Mate: Jason Soderquist
Jason (Jay) grew up in the Turks and Caicos Islands where he spent his childhood in the clear island waters. He has always had a boat of some kind to play on and maintain, so a career in the industry was just a natural progression. He started his career working towards becoming an engineer, going to schools for diesel mechanics, outboard engines, and jet skis, his personality however soon put him in the driver’s seat. He moved up the ranks to a Captains position holding a 500-ton, Oceans license.
Jason has traveled extensively through the Bahamas and Caribbean running a variety of vessels from tournament sport fishing vessels to racing sail catamarans. An opportunity led him across the globe to run a boat for the Quiksilver clothing company. Jay was the captain of the Indies Trader 1, which traveled the world searching for undiscovered surf breaks, and monitoring the oceans coral reefs for “Reef Check”. Eventually they returned to her homeport of Sumatra, Indonesia where he ran surf charters in the famed Mentawai Islands. Jason's passion for all water sports is infectious and he is happiest teaching someone the joys of sliding along on a wakeboard, or exploring the undersea world.

Nic did his first Atlantic crossing from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean where his career in the yachting industry started in 1995. Since then Nic has logged over 95 000 nautical miles and is well experienced in both engineering and deck departments. When Nic is not fulfilling his passion for engineering you might find him indulging in one of his other loves like swimming, reading, cycling, tennis or music. Happy to be of service wherever he is needed Nic loves interacting with guests and sharing his wealth of engineering knowledge.
Chef: Neil Minnaar
Neil was born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa. He studied at the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in South Africa and has worked on motor yachts for over 7 years. Neil loves to gain knowledge in various ethnic cuisines and has an incredible passion for what he does. Having travelled extensively on the eastern seaboard and the Bahamas and he is no stranger to the Caribbean. In his free time Neil likes to go hiking, cycling, swimming and since getting on the ski hill for the first time in British Columbia, Canada, he would like to hit the slopes more often. He always looks forward to meeting new people and has a passion for making his guests feel at home.

After high school she moved to Vancouver and worked in the service industry where she discovered a natural talent and love for providing memorable and meticulous service to her clientele. She also started an independent clothing label. Before starting her career in yachting she worked as a supervisor at the local youth centre where she ran the drop in for teens, planning programs and being a mentor to the kids. Her desire to be of service to others has now led her to a new career in yachting and the fulfillment of her life-long dream to travel the world. Kelly’s exuberant energy and enthusiastic approach to life is clearly evident in her day to day interactions with guest and crew alike. During her spare time Kelly has an avid love for adventure and you can find her enjoying the outdoors, water sports, reading or sharing her bubbly personality with the world.
Deckhand: Gary Carroll
Gary earned a double degree from Texas A&M and joined the corporate world. After a few years in the work force as VP of a top ten insurance agency in Houston needed a change and decided to get into scuba diving. He spent a year feeding his dive addiction in Honduras before moving to the Cayman Islands where he got sucked back into the corporate world serving as country manager for an insurance company and as the government’s senior insurance compliance officer. But after several years of civil service he realized he needed something more than the grueling 35.5 hour air-conditioned work week chained to a desk with little or no personal interaction with others, so Gary went in search of something more suited to his personality. He befriended some sailors and he got into sail racing, first on a 34’ Pearson “lead sled,” and then as a primary grinder on a 74’ Maxi. Next he helped friends run a 54’ boat that took tourists to Stingray City to play with the rays and most recently as mate and deckhand on a motor yacht in the Caribbean.
Gary joins At Last in his “second career”, doing what he loves best. When asked by a guest what was it like to work on a boat and he responded, “I wouldn’t know.” His joie de vie and maturity all in one assures his guests a fun and safe time on the water.
AT LAST Testimonials
December 19 - 29, 2011
At Last crew,
So i wake up today in Chicago.....sky: grey. ground: brown. weather: chilly and rainy.....not even snow to enjoy! I have to make my own bed and make my own breakfast + 4 others ( well, truth be told, I didn't make my bed or any
one else's breakfast - "to hell with that, I've got re-entry issues!") where are the blue sky and blue waters, and why did we leave you?
Herb, we love being on At Last. Yes, it's a beautiful yacht, but it's you and the crew that bring us back. You set the tone that makes it work so well. We know we can ask you for anything, and you will deliver with a smile on your face. We trust you to dock with the best of them, outrun the weather, teach our kids on jet skis (the end result of which made the vaca that much more fun for them), toss in an unexpected and fabulous firework display or 2, and give us memories of a lifetime. We enjoy your smile and laughter in between....speaking of which, (and I apologize in advance to the rest of the crew) you can get slingshot monkeys on amazon.com. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
At first, the kids were so disappointed that there were 3 new stews (they love their "girls"), but that pretty much disappeared the first day they met Jo, Rachel and Kelly - you all bring something different to the table, and I don't just mean that literally. Your smiles are infectious and you all ooze with kindness and care. We know and appreciate how hard you work behind the scenes and how friendly and eager to please you are when you're on deck with us. You all did such a great job taking care of 4 constantly drinking adults while keeping 5 teenagers entertained with your creative projects and ideas. We can't thank you enough.
Dave, sorry about my ding-a-ling camera battery incident. So technically I didn't really need your help, and yet at the time, I did and got 4 extra days of pictures because of it. You are always there to help us in any capacity. I love the way that when you walk in a room you ask, "what can I help you with?" and if you don't say it, you exude it! And always with a smile and genuine desire to help. You're the best. (oh, and sorry that we didn't really mention that the lazy river wasn't JUST a lazy river, but we were so glad you joined us).
Jason (hoppy) , you're just great, and we all loved getting to know you. The guys enjoyed and appreciated your knowledge and skill in fishing. You're so easy going and friendly...you're just fun to be around. Thank you for all your hard work with a smile, For toting the 4 drinking adults around, for entertaining us as you squealed like a girl as you went down the slide, for your great addition with guitar music....it's all good!
Johnny and Gary....you 2 have put up with us for 3 trips of constant contact. You handle all the shenanigans from the girls (and I don't just mean Andie, Sophie and Chloe!). You work endlessly for our benefit, be it in the kitchen, with all our special meal requests, (hey, I don't think Tommy had a hot dot in 10 days!) up on deck, or dragging tubes for endless hours. We've all gotten to know and enjoy you both so much. So a special note of thanks and hugs to you 2. We adore you and truly hope our paths cross again!
And i must make an extra note to those of you who were on late night Kara patrol: Rachel, Hoppy and Gary. At home, I'm in bed by 9pm. On At Last, I don't want my yummy vacation day to end, so thank you for staying up late with me or for me!
We've never been away at Christmas before, and I was a little hesitant to do so. Now that Jim and I aren't staying up late on Christmas Eve to put toys together, leave reindeer tracks in the snow, and eat some of the milk and cookies left out for Santa, I realize how our kids are growing up. I miss those days more than I can say, but now I look forward to new memories and new ways to celebrate Christmas. Spending Christmas Eve with all of you was a step in the right direction. I loved Christmas Eve this year. I know none of you could be with your families, but I thank you so much for sharing ours.
You are all so good at what you do, and it all comes together to make our time on At Last that much more special. It was a wonderful vacation for us because of all of you - I can't thank you enough.
xoxo - Kara
I didn't take as many pictures as usual, but I will post the ones I took on facebook - friend me!
November 2011
Trip home was uneventful. Trying to get back to reality. This vacation was hands down the best we've experienced... no doubt because we had such a wonderful crew. We haven't had time to sit down and start piecing our memories together quite yet, but will definitely let you know if we have questions about particular locations, etc. Be sure to let us know if you're ever in our neck of the woods! Best - Chad, Stacie, Olivia and Bella
