About BALLADEER

Operating in the West Mediterranean

Balladeer was shown at the 2015 Southampton boat show, she is hull no.12 of the Jeanneau 64.

Every Jeanneau Yacht is designed to be a sailor’s boat, and the Jeanneau 64 is no exception. This flagship is secure, fast, and enjoyable to sail. Philippe Briand has delivered a modern hull that incorporates a hard chine for increased speed, stability, and interior volume.

She can take up to 8 guests in 3 cabins, the interior was custom made for this owner with a huge forward owners suite with double en-suite (his & hers bathrooms), that has a large double bed to starboard and a second double bed to port making it a perfect family cabin, in the rear there is 1 double cabin and 1 twin cabin both with en-suites. She has air-conditioning throughout, water-maker and generator.

She has been fitted with in boom furling, giving you a fully battened mainsail for more sailing pleasure. In the cockpit, she has a spray hood and bimini, 2 cockpit tables & 2 L shape sofas that can convert into sun beds. Balladeer's 2 crew, captain & chef/hostess, will make sure you are well looked after; keeping the boat in immaculate condition, providing delicious meals and showing you the most beautiful anchorages, crystal clear waters, historic towns or secluded bays. The crew cabin is in the bow and accessed from the foredeck.

All interior photos on this page are of Balladeer and the exterior photos are from the Jeanneau 64 catalogue, these will be updated to photos of Balladeer over the summer.

Crew Profile

Captain: Ashlin Bending (27)

Ashlin is a 27 year old Kenyan who’s childhood was spent by/on the sea on all kinds of watercraft. As an adult he has literally sailed the oceans, crossing the Atlantic and the Pacific, with 3 Panama Canal crossings, 5 Messina straights crossings and 4 Corinth Canal crossings, and various world class regattas as bowman.

He has achieved all the necessary RYA/MCA qualifications to captain a sailing boat (with a Yacht Master Ocean Certificate (200tns)/Power Commercial endorsement in 2008, and Officer of the Watch (3000tns) in 2011).

Ashlin has gained his experience since 2008, starting as a deckhand on a 72ft Oyster, then as First Mate/Deckhand on a privately owned 116ft motor yacht with 7 crew in 2009/2010, chartering in the Med, followed by a deckhand position on a 167ft Super Yacht in 2011 in Malaysia, Borneo and the Philippines. He joined a 127ft Sailing Yacht in 2013 as a deckhand/steward for a complete rebuild in Palma, and then a 104ft sailing Yacht in 2015 as Mate/Engineer in the Caribbean and French Polynesian islands, for both private use and for charter. Ashlin was then employed by Tradewinds in 2015 to date as Captain on a number of catamarans, working with Vedra to look after parties of 10 guests on premium charter all over the Caribbean.

Ashlin’s skills extend beyond skippering of the boat to include looking after guests in every aspect of their holiday and especially with water sports. He is a charming, organised and thoughtful person with a lovely sense of humour. Ashlin speaks English, Italian and Spanish.

First Mate/Chef/Hostess: Vedra Bravo Caputo (22)

Vedra is a 22 year old Mexican Italian who speaks fluent English, Italian and Spanish and conversational French. Vedra was raised on a sailing boat (aged 2-8) and travelled with her family across the Caribbean, Pacific and the Atlantic, which gave her a great passion for the sea and sailing. She finished her education in Mexico and has gained her sailing qualifications in the UK (RYA Day Skipper and Powerboat Level II in 2012), and she has gained her experience all around the world over the last four years, two of those with Ashlin.

Vedra has played the dual role of Chef /Hostess and Deckhand throughout this time. She is adept at all crewing and also supervision of water sports and she is also a trained chef (attending professional cooking courses in both Thailand and Mexico). She has been used to producing breakfast, lunch and 3 course dinners for 10 guests on both private and luxury charters to a 4 star standard and she can provide meals flexibly to everyone’s taste.

Vedra is a lovely, fun person to have on board who is an understanding and kind hostess, but who is also thoroughly organised in her dual role, working with Ashlin to make sure everyone on board has a wonderful time.

Testimonials

July 2016 - We had a fantastic week on board Balladeer. Seb was a great captain; always willing to let us have a go, patient and hardworking. Lucy is a fantastic cook and goes out of her way to wait upon us ever moment of the day. The fact that we only ate one meal ashore the whole week was a testament to her cooking. We also go our own private, evening yoga session on the beach - although I hobbled around the next day!

The area around northern Sardinia and Corsica was wonderful. Different from the Aegean where we'd sailed before, but full of lovely coves and spots to just pull up and swim. We also hadn't realised that north Sardinia was such a billionaires' playground.

When you next see Seb and Lucy please pass on our thanks and regards

With best wishes, The Davies Family
