BLUE MOON Crew Profile

Emile Bootsma, Captain, South African
Emile has been the owner’s captain for the last 13 years and has captained all three of his vessels named “Blue Moon”. With the last two he was heavily involved overseeing the construction and was responsible for writing the final specification. Born in Cape Town and educated at Stellenbosch, Emile is also a Dutch citizen and speaks fluent Dutch. His interests are wide and varied but mainly seem to congregate around sailing and motorcycle racing ... or now-a-days it is mostly whatever his 6 year old son wants to do.
Michael Mason, Chief Engineer, Australian
Michael Mason previously served on Blue Moon 2 as chief engineer but after a five year hiatus working on various other vessels he decided to rejoin the A-team. Michael is also an Australian native and makes his home in Hervey Bay, Queensland. In his spare time he combs the country-side on his Harley Davidson Roadking.
Cynthia Mauger, Chief Stewardess, Canadian
Cynthia grew up in the stunning surrounds of Quebec, Canada, where she studied translation at the world renowned Laval University before eventually deciding on a career in yachting. Cynthia has travelled the world and has served as chief stewardess on the last two Blue Moons; she is fluent in French, English and Spanish. When she is not concerning herself with recycling Cynthia’s big love is a fire-breathing, ‘67 Mustang convertible called “Black Betty."
Angela Faust, Second Stewardess
Chloë Frickel, Stewardess, South African
Chloë hails from the east coast of South Africa and follows her successful aunt and older sister into the yachting world. Her bubbly and effervescent personality is what most likely keeps the crew together. She may be the baby onboard, but only in size not in stature. Her interest seems to revolve around shopping for all things ... pink!
Tara Moore, Stewardess, Australian
Tara grew up in Perth on the west coast of Australia, where she studied Tourism and Travel Management at the famous Murdoch University. This naturally led to a quest to see the world, which is how she eventually landed on the Blue Moon. Of all her varied interests Tara’s energy is mostly spent on philanthropy and animal rescue.
David Cowcill, Head Chef, Canadian
David studied at the renowned DuBrulle Culinary Institute in Vancouver, and enjoys the stimulation of traveling extensively in order to broaden his international culinary skills. Amongst others, he has worked onboard the feadship “Eclipse” in the past, as well as various internationally acclaimed restaurants in Canada and Australia, including Rob Feenies establishments in Vancouver.
