Storm Higgo // Captain
Hailing from CapeTown, South Africa, Captain Storm worked his way up through the yachting ranks to his current MCA 3000GT Masters Certificate on busy travelling yachts, most of them Feadships. Some of the more far flung destinations Storm has been fortunate enough to cruise through include Alaska, French Polynesia, New Zealand, the Persian Gulf and South America. In addition to his extensive yachting experience Storm is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, having taught SCUBA in the Red Sea, SE Asia, the UK and the Mediterranean. Storm is passionate about delivering 1st class service and all things nautical, and will ensure your stay onboard M/Y Broadwater is an unforgettable experience. When Storm isn't at sea he can be found at home with his wife Annie, and their children, Audrey and Scott.
Mark Jones // First Officer
From Wales in the United Kingdom, Mark has been a keen sailor since the age of 7, representing the UK in a variety of classes in dinghy racing. Having been a member of the Royal National Life Boat Institute for 3 years, he gained experience in boat handling and working under pressure. Mark worked his way up in the yachting industry, working on large 252ft, 200ft and 180ft yachts acquiring both private and charter experience. He has gathered vast yacht location berth and anchorage knowledge, including, but not limited to the Black Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Adriatic Sea. In 2011, Mark completed his MCA 3000gt Chief Mate license and is currently working towards his 3000gt Master license. Mark loves all things pertaining to the sea and will ensure that your time spent partaking in seafaring activities is thoroughly entertaining and safe.
Scott Butler // Chief Engineer
Scott is from Durban, South Africa. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar in South Africa and then began working on an oil rig before joining his first yacht at the age of 21. He started in the industry as a deckhand prior to transitioning into his true passion of engineering. His favorite part of his job is the challenges he is presented with and subsequently finding solutions for them. Scott recently purchased an equestrian farm in South Africa and he enjoys spending his time away there as well as free diving and spear fishing.
Theo Smit // Second Engineer
Theo is from Cape Town, South Africa. He has a strong love for the outdoors and prior to joining the yachting industry he was an outdoor adventure tour guide. Theo’s love for working with his hands and figuring the interworking of machines led him to his career in yachting. He and Chief Engineer Scott are quite the engineering duo and have worked on previous vessels together. When he isn’t working you can find him exploring the outdoors.
Nathan Post // Chef
Nathan joined Broadwater in January 2015 and has been in the yachting industry for over 3 years. He has been cooking professionally for over 10 years. We expect you will enjoy his relaxed and passionate approach to food as he aims to tempt you with mouth-watering combinations from around the globe. He is classically trained and also specialises in clean-cut Indo-Pacific flavours, which may include trendy ‘street food’ versions from your favourite Asian takeaway to anything you might be intrigued by at Nobu. His cooking style is fresh and uncomplicated, enhanced with contemporary, modernist cuisine and techniques, as well as deliciously healthy options that every, new-world foodie will enjoy. When Nathan isn’t scrambling your eggs or assisting out on deck, he plays soccer and a bit of ‘ozzie rules’, enjoys surfing and being out in the sun – He can also quite often be heard singing (out loud), so don’t be too surprised if you do happen to hear him serenading your sashimi or humming to your hummus!
Seldon Jones // Chief Stewardess
Seldon comes from a seafaring family from New England. She received her Bachelor’s degree from a private college in North Carolina in 2007 and began a career in yachting in 2008. She has worked on several high profile charter and private yachts over the past 6 years. She has a passion for service and details and enjoys nothing more than ensuring that her guests have the absolute time of their lives while on board. She and her husband, First Officer Mark Jones, have known one another since her first day on her first yacht and traveling and working together has broadened Seldon’s appreciation for the industry immensely. She and Mark spent the first quarter of 2014 on an extended honeymoon traveling around the world to places like Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Bali, Dubai and the UK. When Seldon is not ensuring the interior is immaculate, she enjoys travelling, running, reading and SCUBA diving.
Leigh Anne Cawood // Second Stewardess
Leigh Anne is from Johannesburg, South Africa. She completed her degree at university in Hospitality where she gained a thorough general knowledge of customer service, housekeeping and laundry skills which prepared her well for her new venture in yachting. Broadwater is her first vessel and she is thrilled to be a part of our team. Prior to yachting, Leigh Anne was employed with a leading luxury tour operations company and during her time there her desire for travel increased immensely, hence securing her desire to set out for the US and secure a position on a motor yacht as a Stewardess. Leigh Anne loves to hike, exercise and has a great interest in photography and scrapbooking.
Jeanot Boutry // Boson
Jeanot was born and raised on the sunny peninsula of Cape Town. He spent the last year and a half on the busy charter yacht, Mia Elise. He learned the importance of teamwork during his school days as an avid rugby player. Jeanot followed his brother into yachting as he comes from a family of avid sailors. His first job took him to one of his favorite cruising destinations, the Bahamas. Jeanot’s bright sense of humor and kind spirit are expressed in every task, conversation.His hobbies include Crossfit, water sports, travel, catching the perfect wave, and cooking.
Mark Patterson // Deckhand
Mark is from Adelaide, Australia. He studied at the University of South Australia, Le Cordon Bleu and received a Bachelor’s Degree of Business, specializing in Hotel and Resort Management. He worked at numerous 5 star hotels and resorts during his time in university and after. Most recently he spent 3 years selling real estate. During a cruise to Europe he discovered the yachting industry in picturesque Monaco and became determined to experience the gem that is yachting, which finally led him to his first job as deckhand aboard Broadwater. He is thrilled to be a part of our team.
