Crew Profile

Captain: Jon Brunhold (40)

CAPTAIN JON BRUNOLD

Jon is a life-long sailor, starting in his youth in So. California with sabots and lasers as well as Catalina sailboats his family owned. He graduated from the University of Hawaii, then went on to study marine education at MPT Marine Tech. Institute where he received his USCG 500/3000 ton Yacht Master license. He furthered his education in hospitality, receiving an advanced diploma from the Swiss International College of Hotel Management.

Jon applied that education managing the Kahala Resort, Hyatt Hawaii, and Starwood Resorts in Hawaii. He began diving and became a licensed instructor, then worked for the Aggressor Dive fleet in Tahiti an Hawaii. He began working on private yachts and for 10 seasons did deliveries in the Marquesas, Galapagos and Panama. He has worked as captain on many charter vessels which gave him extensive knowledge and familiarity of the Caribbean, So. Florida and Cuba.

A very hands on professional, Jon enjoys doing whatever needs to be done, from servicing an engine to serving his guests. He is charming and upbeat, and enthusiastic about sharing destinations and activities that he is passionate about with his guests. Above all Jon is a true professional and makes the safety and comfort of his guests his number one priority.

Chef: Dania Brunold (33)

CHEF DANIA BRUNOLD is originally from Colombia and was raised in Miami. She is energetic with an endearing smile and always very gracious, making sure that there are plenty of delicious appetizers to accompany her authentic Cuba Libres. Dania is excellent at organization and enthusiastic about planning the perfect Cuba shore experience tailored to the preferences of her charter guests, from touring Havana in a 50's pink Cadillac convertible to dining in her favorite, most authentic restaurant.

Jon and Dania are superb with children of all ages and also welcome pets on board.

Testimonials

June 9, 2016 -Exceeded Our Expectations in Every Way

Soul-enriching, adventurous, and relaxing are just some of the words I would use to describe this vacation. This is not a “once in a lifetime” vacation, this is a “should do every year vacation!” Spending 3 days on the Calypso with Captain Jon and his first mate and wife, Dania exceeded our expectations in every way!!! We were looking for a vacation just to get away and relax while experiencing the best that marine life had to offer, but what we walked away with was an experience that left all of us wanting more, and still has us talking and dreaming about it a week later. The marine life we saw was like something out of the series Planet Earth, the sunsets were breathtaking, the fresh fish we ate everyday was better than a 4 star restaurant, and the laughter and thought-provoking conversation filled the fresh evening air as we sat around and gazed at the evening sky.

There is nothing ordinary about this experience, as Captain Jon and Dania tailored a vacation specific for our desires. We were treated like family as they led us from one adventure to the next. We highly recommend this for a romantic get-away and for a family adventure.

If you have forgotten what the heavens look like at night, with the billion stars twinkling, and you want to experience abundant sea life up close, from one of the most beautiful places on earth, then that is what you can expect from the Calypso. This should be on your list of vacations.

May, 2016 -Family Trip to the Keys

Wow what a weekend. We extended an extra day. Our only complaint is we didn't want to go home. Cuba in the near near future will be our next holiday. Caught a Fish, Sunset Sail, Snorkeling, SUP, Relaxing, Fun cocktails and the food was 5 star. Cabins and bathrooms were large and comfortable. Great Vacation.

February 2016 -Can't Say Enough

I can't say enough about our time spent on Calypso with Captain Jon and his beautiful hostess, Dania. We were greeted with champagne cocktails and a seafood platter unlike anything we have had before. The boat is immaculate and just feels and smells like paradise.  Jon took us to great local snorkeling spots. We used the paddle board a lot. We went on an incredible sunset cruise that Jon and Dania made extra special with cocktails and appetizers. We did a combination marina stay with day sails and sunset sails. We stayed at the Miami Beach Marina which was the location we requested for a special event nearby and Jon worked with us on that. Calypso is definitely your floating hotel. There were 5 of us and we had plenty of space and privacy. We can't wait to stay on the Calypso again. In fact we have put our name on the list to go with them to Cuba!
