Captain Andries van Dyk, 26

‘Dries,’ as  CAPERCAILLIE’s captain  is known, hails from Capetown, South Africa where he began sailing at an early age. He joined CAPERCAILIE two years ago as the deckhand, rising to the position of captain after five Transatlantic crossings between the Med and the Caribbean.  His most recent project has been overseeing an extensive refit in Italy to prepare for a successful chartering season in the Med.

Dries is keen on outdoor activities both above and below the water.  He is a PADI certified diver and enjoys bird watching, mountain climbing and sky diving.  He loves languages, is fluent in Afrikaans and English, and currently improving his working knowledge of Italian.   Somehow he finds time to be a part-time engineering student concentrating on Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.

Capt. van Dyk holds an MCA 200 ton Master of Yachts Offshore License.
