CARIBBEAN DREAM Crew Profile
Captain Glenn Becker and Chef Angela Smith, although new to the Caribbean Dream, are not new to the world of sailing and chartering.
Captain Glenn has spent the last 10 years crewing and captaining both sailing and power yachts in the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Caribbean and the Pacific.
He was born in Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan. His teenage years were spent working for a local marina. His family often chartered sailboats for their annual vacations so he developed a love for the Caribbean islands and waters at a young age.
After graduating from Colgate University with a degree in Economics, Glenn turned his back on the corporate world and instead pursued another passion of his, skiing. Glenn joined the Telluride Ski Patrol where he spent 12 years ensuring the safety of skiers while training his own avalanche rescue dog, Maggie. Once Glenn’s feet became so cold that they wouldn’t thaw, he decided to trade ski boots for flip flops and headed for the tropics.
Glenn earned his USCG 100 Ton Masters and went to work for the Moorings as well as delivering yachts up and down the Eastern Seaboard and the Caribbean. He owned and chartered a Beneteau 510 named Rusty Nail II before returning to the Moorings for another season. After joining the private sector, Glenn crewed and captained on several sailboats before ending up in Hawaii where he worked for a day sail charter company.
Glenn is a PADI Dive Master and, having spent many hours beneath the surface of the Caribbean, is very knowledgeable about all of the best snorkel and dive spots and would love nothing more than to jump into the warm, inviting water and show you a world that not many know exists.
Chef Angela Smith was born and raised in upstate New York. She spent summers with her Grandmother where she learned how to cook at a very young age. Her first official job at the age of 14 was the Assistant Baker at Brant Lake Camp, a prestigious boy’s camp. After that, no matter what career choice she made, it always came back to cooking.
Angela completed her chef training in Culinary, Pastry and Restaurant Management in Houston, Texas. She owned and operated her own catering and special events company for 14 years in the Houston area. Chef Angela continued to work in the industry as a ServSafe Instructor and Business Development Manager for a French culinary school and as a Special Events Coordinator for Space Center Houston, the visitor’s center for NASA. One of her career highlights was being named the Lean Body Chef for Labrada Nutrition. This position allowed her the opportunity to develop healthy recipes for foods that are typically off limits to both amateur and professional bodybuilders.
After moving to Hawaii in 2004, Chef Angela became the Corporate Pastry Chef for Y. Hata & Co., the largest foodservice distributor in the islands. She was named “One of the best up and coming chefs in Hawaii” by Castle and Cooke and became the Pastry Advisor/Coach for the Army Culinary Olympic Team. Angela was the creative talent behind Maui’s WM The Restaurant where she performed the dual role of Executive Chef and Executive Pastry Chef. She then went on to become the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager for the two Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse restaurants on Maui. In 2007, Chef Angela was offered the position of Executive Chef/Operations Manager with a local day sail charter company. She quickly accepted because this would allow her the opportunity to combine two of her passions, cooking and being on the water. Angela is a competitive outrigger canoe paddler, paddles Stand-Up Boards and is a PADI Rescue Diver.
Glenn and Angela met in Hawaii while working for the same day sail charter company. There they found the perfect combination of interests and talents that allow them to offer indescribably luxurious vacations full of exotic scenery and gourmet food designed to please any palate. Now calling the BVI home, they look forward to making your “Caribbean Dream” come true.

6. Could we have helped you further in any way?
VIS and team were very professional and attentive to our requests..
7. May we post this review on our website?
Yes
8. Additional comments on your charter?
We had a blast.... The only advise I would give is relative to the communication around the crews emphasis to clean energy and minimal enviornmental impact. As a family we consider ourselves to be enviornmentally focused, however when it comes to limiting water usage and electricity, we had to adjust as well. We quickly adjusted to the boat showers and even salt water baths with fresh water rinse. The A/C was a different story. In the end, we learned a little more about ways to keep our environment clean and green .Overall a wonderful experience from start to finish. I would recccomend Caribbean Dream and VIS to my friends. Glenn and Angela were great. Gail and Mallorie were great as well. Thanks for everything.
Tommy and Gene - April 2011
Dear Angela and Glen,
Sorry to be so slow in writing but all has been hectic since getting back. Our whole family, three generations, had a truly wonderful vaction with you last month- one that will be remembered forever. You all did a great job with Bow and Annie, which every grandparent and parent always appreciates most. Also, thanks so much for the family picture- it will be distributed at Christmastime! And finally, the larger collection of photos are wonderful and will be the object of revisiting for years to come.
Coming from a business that is very much service-oriented, I appreciate that yours is a very challenging endeavor, as every customer is different and have their own weird likes and dislikes- whether it’s the strength of their coffee or the firmness of their pillow, so my only encouragement would be to always try to get them to open up (as you do with your questionaire beforehand) and then respond within the boundaries that have to be maintained. I am sure that some guests will always be very adamant in making their desires known, but the ones who are less inclined may respond to occasional probing or just checking (“How do you like…?)
One suggestion we have regarding activities relates to the snorkeling. For someone like Gene, who was very unceratin about her ability to snorkel, it might be good to start them in shallow water, where they may work into it more gardually and gain confidence. I was sorry she did not feel confident enough to do more of it.
Please do not take any of these comments as anything but mild constructive feedback, as this trip was beyond our wildest expectations, and I want to say again that the food was simply out of this world. I am also happy to report that it didn’t result in any extra pounds for me after I got back, so thank you! Activity solves lots of issues.
We will continue to be sales agents for you and wish you both the very best during the rest of 2011. Please let us know if you get to SC or MI. Our very best ergards,
Tommy

Caribbean Dream Trip Comments
This was our first Caribbean sailing trip. Overall, it was a spectacular experience that we enjoyed even more than we had hoped for. Very relaxing. Great camaraderie with our fellow guests. We strongly recommend the Caribbean Dream to everyone.
In the interest of brevity we will limit our specific comments to four areas in no particular order. First, the boat itself was terrific, with spacious cabins and ample common areas. Moreover, Glenn’s and Angela’s ongoing focus on immaculate cleanliness was obvious—“ship shape” would be an understatement. Second, Glenn’s and Angela’s sailing expertise and local knowledge was most significant. For example, their selection of mooring/anchoring locations and snorkeling spots was excellent. They truly know the area and all of the best spots. Separate from the “smooth nights” that gently rocked us to sleep in our cabin, we saw lots of fish, reef life and underwater rock formations that we will never forget. Third, Angela’s gourmet meals were truly to die for—excellent choices, superb preparation and spectacular presentation every time. Fourth, the pick-up and drop-off, literally within walking distance of the Tortola airport (EIS), could not have been more convenient or more efficient.

Dear Glenn & Angela,
Where do we even begin? From arriving to rum punches with freshly grated nutmeg, a beautiful floral arrangement, and an absolutely impeccable & luxurious catamaran to outstanding food, fantastic sailing, wonderful diving, and great conversation with a crew we now consider friends! You both made the trip unforgettable with your mouth watering cooking (that banana cake – I can still taste it!), flexibility with the itinerary, and insider tips of the BVIs. We will definitely be back (hopefully next winter!) as Caribbean Dream sets the bar much too high to ever choose any other charter! You are always welcome in Minnesota!
Thank you again for a truly one of a kind vacation!
All the best,
Nicola & Aaron, Minnesota

Thank you for an unforgettable trip! We loved every moment. From the snorkeling to the diving, kayaking to enjoying the breeze and the sun while sailing to Anegada, we enjoyed the wide variety of activities. We were amazed that each place we stopped had something different offer – new "">__________
One piece of advice for Glenn and Angela: Don’t change a thing! We so enjoyed watching Angela create delicious meals from fresh fruits purchased from the island locals – and we enjoyed eating those meals even more! Glenn was endlessly entertaining and made us feel so comfortable with his years of experience at the helm. The sailing was fantastic, the scenery was unbelievable, and the experience was unique in every way. Thank you both so much. We enjoyed every meal and every stop we made. What a vacation!
