CLAIRE Crew Profile
Captain Wayne Foulis
Captain Wayne wants to take this opportunity to welcome you aboard M/Y CLAIRE. He would like to introduce you to his crew onboard, starting with a little about himself.
Wayne grew up on the coast near Durban in South Africa and has been surrounded by water his whole life. As a young adult he was a beach lifesaver, active SCUBA diver and general water man. His family sailed a small sailboat from which he decided that yachting was the career for him.
Wayne has covered a significant number of miles during his career and has been lucky enough to cruise Alaska, the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the East coast of the US, as well as a number of Atlantic crossings. He has worked on M/Y CHRISTINE, M/Y ULTIMA III and M/Y MARTHA ANN.
When not busy running M/Y CLAIRE he can be found on the driving range, gardening or in the water either surfing or wakeboarding.
Wayne has put together a team on M/Y CLAIRE that will take care of all your needs, so put your feet up, relax and enjoy every minute.
Chief Officer Mark Wiltshire
Mark joins the crew of M/Y CLAIRE as First Officer. He holds his MCA Master 500 ton license. He has worked in the Marine industry for 14 years, including 8 years on super yachts from 37 to 115 meters including motor yachts, motor sailors and sport fishers.
Prior to coming to yachts Mark was a commercial diver for 4 years working on civil engineering, cable-laying and aquaculture projects. Since leaving the industry, he has become certified as a PADI dive master and enjoys recreational diving.
Whilst not working he enjoys swimming, snorkeling, diving, reading and fishing. He also runs, but does not enjoy it. Mark speaks French to a conversational standard.
Chief engineer Kasper Hemmingsen
Coming from the commercial shipping industry, Kasper started his career on the water many years prior to joining M/Y CLAIRE. He graduated from Svendborg International Maritime Academy as 1st class Engineer and 1st class Mate. He has also received training in Advanced Medical Care and Advanced Fire Fighting.
As a child Kasper and his family travelled a lot in the South of France where he was truly fascinated by the beauty of the yachts everywhere. Ever since that time he has always wanted to work on a private yacht, and when the chance presented itself, it was an easy decision to make.
When Kasper is not fixing stuff or getting dirty in the engine room his big passion is playing golf, and listening to music on good sound systems.
Chef DeWaal Van Heerden
DeWaal was born and raised in a University Town called Potchefstroom in South Africa. He studied at the Northwest University and obtained B.Com degrees in Business Communication and then financial accounting. During his studies he started pursuing his passion for cooking and started a part time catering company. That led to a year at Cooking school and a full time position as Head Chef, Catering for The Live Wire Events Company.
He decided to pursue the yachting industry and travelled the South Pacific, Central America and the Caribbean on board Sail Yacht EOS as sous chef. DeWaal loves to laugh, make people laugh and keep everybody happy and well fed. He is also the self-employed writer, producer and director of the CLAIRE Crew Play a work in progress!
Chief Stewardess Sarah Foulis
Sarah is from a small sailing village on the South coast of England. Sarah studied at the University of Plymouth for her Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Geography. During her studies she was able to participate in a SCUBA Diving Project in the Fijian Islands, where she became a passionate diver.
Sarah started in the yachting industry by cruising through Tennessee on M/Y LIQUIDITY in 2001, the yacht then took her through Central America and to SE Alaska. She has travelled the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Eastern USA on board other yachts such as M/Y CHRISTINE and M/Y ULTIMA III. Sarah loves swimming, yoga, and singing karaoke (however bad)! She enjoys throwing parties and pouring drinks, loves fancy dress and making sure the guests have the time of their life.
Deckhand Murray Middleton
Murray is from George, South Africa. He started his yachting career by sailing a 38ft catamaran to Greece from South Africa, which took 62 days! Since landing in Europe he has worked on M/Y AZTECA and M/Y AVELLA. During his time in yachting he has cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the US east coast. When Murray is not working he likes to surf, golf and his latest hobby, jumping out of airplanes. In Florida, Murray has become an active sky diver and grabs any chance he can to jump.
Murray is a keen crewmember and looks forward to helping all our guests with water sports and activities onboard M/Y CLAIRE.
Deckhand Bernardo Varela
Bernardo joins M.Y Claire from Mar del Plata, Argentina. His home lies on the east coast of South America, where he grew up in and around the ocean. Bernardo is a keen traveler and after leaving school he saved his money from his first job to travel South America for a year. This passion for travelling pushed Bernardo to start his career in yachting. Since coming to the US in 2008, he has been crewing on yachts and making sure guests enjoy their experience on board as much as possible.
When Bernard is not working he likes to exercise, SCUBA Dive, Snorkel, and play Soccer.
Stewardess Louise Nielsen
Louise is from the North of Denmark, but lives with Kasper on a small Island in the south of Denmark. She loves the Danish national antham and loves traditional Danish food such as rød grød med fløde.
Louise studied in Demark at The University College of Lillebaelt for her Bachelor in teaching. Back in Denmark she taught primary and secondary students. She loves to work with people of all ages and cultures and thinks that the Yachting industry is a perfect way to meet new people and cultures both with crew and guests.
Louise began her career in the yachting industry in 2008 on S/Y HELIOS. She is a happy and easygoing girl who loves running, rowing, throwing parties, girly drinks and small fluffy animals. She will make our time on M/Y CLAIRE enjoyable in every way.
Stewardess Juan-Leigh
Juan-Leigh is from a beautiful small town called George along the Garden Route in South Africa. She loves her fellow “Georgians” and respects the small town ethics and morals she was exposed to.
She loves sports and being active. Cultures, traditions, language, business, and animals are only a small share of interests.
She believes in laughing too much, taking too many photos, forgiving freely, and living in every moment; thus being how she was introduced into the yachting industry since October 2010. Her great determination to see the world’s finest hasn’t failed to impress. She has worked on other yachts such as M/Y CARCHARIAS, M/Y RASA.
She hopes only to exude utmost joy onto those around her and wishes you a happy trip.
