Crew Profile
Captain : Simon Hughes
Simon joined "Clevelander" in the fall of 2010 from another Swan in Norway and hasn’t looked back. He started sailing when he was 5 years old on small dinghies in England and was brought up sailing on the challenging waters of the Channel Island of Guernsey.
After a short stint as an accountant he decided to make his hobby his profession and has been running yachts for 19 years all over the World. He brings an air of calm professionalism to the yacht, with an emphasis on people having fun in safety.
With many years of experience in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, Simon knows the best places to anchor and dive. As a PADI Divemaster he is happy to take other qualified divers out, and will also share his enthusiasm for all things relating to the water from wakeboarding to snorkeling and underwater photography.
Chef: Athas Liavas
Athas is new to the crew of Clevelander, he hails from New Zealand and his family roots are in Greece. His culinary training is based on French cuisine but he has added a distinct Mediterranean influence due to his heritage and also Pacific touches combining exotic with classical flavours to create exciting dishes.
Having traveled all over the world he eventually combined his love of the sea with his trade and has been working as a chef on sailing yachts in the Mediterranean for the past 5 years. Athas likes to present his guests with a culinary adventure but is equally happy complying with special requests.
In his free time he gets in a game of tennis, he loves the sea, so swimming and fishing are part of his relax schedule, on another note he likes a good game of Poker ,enjoys reading and keeping up to date with culinary trends.
Stewardess/Deckhand: Joanne Stones

CLEVELANDER Testimonials
Hello Simon!
Thank you for a wonderful week aboard Clevelander. We really enjoyed the sailing , the good food and the service that you all provided.
We are now in St Barth, lots of winds and grey skies, probably the same as you have on your way to Antigua. So we were lucky with the weather in BVI.
I appreciate your offer and I would love to stay one night at Clevelander hotel!
Carl & Maria
Simon,
Fortunately the weather in Holland has been excellent, 26C and no cloud. Not a sight of turquoise waters though.....
It does not look like the dates for this early summer will work out. However we do not give up easily and are keen to repeat our very enjoyable Clevelander experience in the Mediterranean.
We hope your preparations for the transatlantic crossing will be smooth. Jordan asked if there is any way to track your progress on google earth or similar during the crossing. He has been wearing his dinghy captain shirt non stop and was busy speculating which transatlantic route you would take on the flight tracker on our way back.
Leah prepared eggs for breakfast (first time it ever happened thanks to Katherine's setting the bar so high) with a whole decoration.
Please give again our thanks to Katherine and Kelly for their superb company.
All the best,
Armin
Just a quick note to thank you for all the arrangements now that we are back in Holland. The Inn at English Harbor was great and we even met some friends from Italy. Clevelander more than surpassed our expectations. The crew was fantastic, Simon a pleasure to be with, and Katherine worthy of any Michelin star on land let alone on a boat. Kelly really helpful and kind.
Not a drop of rain to top it off.
Warm regards.
