DIAMOND GIRL Crew Profile

Captain Tim Smith

Tim Smith was born in Iowa and raised in North Dakota where there is far more land than water.  His summers were spent onboard his family’s sail boat on northern lakes and rivers; sailing, fishing and swimming.  He attended the University of North Dakota and at twenty took a two year break from school and moved to the Virgin Islands.  Sailing almost daily on the charter sail vessel VANDOR, and trying and learning as much as he could about boats and oceans, he began what has become his career.  After returning to North Dakota and completing college, he immediately returned to boating and has not looked back.

In 1997, Tim refit and sailed his own 1963, 35’ classic sloop ANAKENA from New Orleans, Louisiana to Puerto Rico.  He has worked on commercial, private and charter vessels ranging from 29’ to 142’ including two American Sail Training Association (ASTA) Tall Ships.   He has experience running vessels in the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas, in addition to the east Coast of the United States from Florida to New England.  Tim currently holds a United States Coast Guard 1600 Ton Master License with Ocean Endorsement.

When not working, you can find Tim in Puerto Rico with his fiancée Denise, their son Christian Aubrey, and their two dogs Bella and Blanca.

Tim looks forward to having you aboard the beautiful motor yacht, DIAMOND GIRL, introducing you to one of the best crews in the business, and doing his part to ensure a safe and wonderful vacation for you and your family.

First Mate Michael Angelo Lagonia II

Angelo was born in Staten Island NY and shortly thereafter moved to Memphis where he was raised. He has always been drawn to the ocean as if by an invisible magnetic force. The sound, smell, swimming, photographing, fishing, surfing, diving, and navigating have always left the most meaningful memories. Navigation has always been a family endeavor. His father is a pilot but Angelo leaned more toward the allure of boats.

He went to Lyman Ward Military Academy for high school and excelled in Academics and a fierce love for baseball; he was pitcher. He graduated the 2
ndin command and achieved the highest rank possible. When he wasn’t at school you could find him with his father hanging out at the airport cleaning their Beechcraft baron twin engine airplane and watching the planes land and take off on the weekends while dreaming about the ocean.

After high school Angelo attended Fort Lewis College in Durango Colorado and studied business. After college he worked in the real estate business selling mortgages until he realized there were more exciting and rewarding opportunities. He just needed to get out there take them. He sold his house and car in 2009 and moved to Central America. He landed in Utila, Honduras in 2010 to begin his dive career. He loved the idea of traveling, exploring as much ocean as possible, and breathing underwater.
Angelo has taught SCUBA in Honduras, Panama, Israel, and Thailand. Making bubbles is Angelo’s passion and loves taking photos of his adventures.

Angelo believes instinctively that being near the ocean makes us happier, healthier, reduces stress, and brings peace so when he crossed over into yachting two years ago and has not looked back. Yachting has combined all of his passions into one.  He began as a deck/stew/crew chef and quickly worked his way up to deckhand, boswain and then mate. He is currently pursuing his captain’s license.

Chef Jason Avakian

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Jason Avakian began cooking by earning a degree from The California Culinary Academy in 1997.  He followed by training under celebrity Chef Bradley Ogden at “One Market” in San Francisco.

In 1998 Jason moved to the Caribbean to pursue his dream career as a Yacht Chef.  He specializes in Asian, Mexican, French and Italian cuisines and greatly enjoys infusing them with his California fresh style.

When not working aboard Chef Jason’s down time is spent surfing, spear fishing and playing with his kids on the beach at home in the US Virgin Islands.

Stewardess – Jenna DeVincenzo

Jenna was born and raised in sunny Denver, Colorado, not far from the Rocky Mountains. She graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado with a degree in Psychology. She has worked and lived all over the US and Europe, andin 2014, joined the yachting industry.

Working in yachting industry has given Jenna exactly what she hoped for; adventure, travel, and the opportunity to learn new things. During her time working on yachts, Jenna has traveled all around Florida and the Caribbean. In her free time, Jenna enjoys reading nonfiction, listening to music, indulging in health and fitness, hiking, trying new cuisines, and exploring new islands.

Jenna is looking forward to using her stewardess experience, coupled with her bubbly personality and exceptional service, to provide Diamond Girl's guests with vacation memories that last a lifetime.

FEBRUARY 2014 CARIBBEAN

Words can't describe it ... amazing , amazing AMAZING.  Now we know how the super rich live .  Holy cow !  Already thinking of doing it again.  I always judge a trip by asking the participants -

"would you do this again ... and if so , would you actually schedule it ? "   and I got a resounding YES.

Thanks so much for your help !

Truly incredible trip

JULY 2014 BAHAMAS

XXXXX,

It was the best time ever!!! Diamond Girl is beautiful and amazing... but the best of all was the crew. I can not say enough things about all 4 of them... they are truly amazing individuals and work together perfectly as a team. We have already talked about doing it again with a different location.  Exumas was perfect for this trip and all the suggestions Captain Tim made to do were spot-on for us. Chef Jason made things we had never gotten to try before (and only seen on Cooking Channel) and they were delicious! As well as steaks and seafood that were out of this world. I am sure I gained 5 lbs. and am afraid to stand on the scale, but I don't care I would not have missed a bite of anything he made for us. Margaret worked so hard for us and did it with a smile! We kept trying to catch her making the beds, freshening the towels, folding the toilet paper and 100's of other things she did... but she was too quick for us!  Probably because as soon as we sat down anywhere we had a drink of our choice coming! (I think that distracted us and it worked). Brandon took us on lots of adventures in the small boat and did some excellent navigating to get us to interesting locations and secluded beaches. Did I mention Captain Tim snorkeled down and got us a huge crab to go with the fish the guys caught?  Jason prepared it and we had it all that evening. My only problem was I took WAY TOO MUCH stuff... you don't need it to have a wonderful time... one pair of flip flops will get you anywhere you need to go because you are barefoot on DG. I was not happy putting on shoes to go to work this morning.

Please feel confident recommending Diamond Girl and this outstanding group to anyone... just don't book anybody else for the next week we choose to come :-).  And thank you for all your help arranging this trip!

Very best regards,

Mary
