EXCELLENCE V Crew Profile
CAPTAIN RAY SHORE
Ray was born in Newport, Rhode Island where he began a yachting career on launches. He steadily continued his climb up the yachting ladder by serving as deck crew and mate on various yachts, eventually earning his 1600 Ton Oceans Master license. He has been with the EXCELLENCE program since 1989, playing a major role in the building of EXCELLENCE II, III, IV and V! Yachting has taken him to many parts of the world, with extensive time spent in the Mediterranean, New England, and the Caribbean. The immense knowledge and experience gained through these travels enables Ray to offer an array of possible itineraries as well as a pleasurable cruise. Ray is also a family man, with wife Maria, and their four wonderful children based in Ft Lauderdale, FL.
MATT ARTRIP - FIRST OFFICER
Having grown up in Southern Illinois, Matt always had a passion and desire to be closer to the water. After attending Winthrop University in South Carolina on a soccer and academic scholarship, Matt graduated in 2004 with his Bachelors in Business Administration degree, with a focus in Finance. Upon completing College, he jilted Graduate School and joined the M/Y EXCELLENCE III (188ft/57m) as a deckhand and has never looked back.
Matt now holds a United States Coast Guard 1600gt/3000grt Master's upon Oceans License and has cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Alaska, British Columbia, US East and West Coast, Central America, Galapagos and French Polynesia upon various yachts.
His goal is to provide guests a pleasurable and unforgettable experience while onboard EXCELLENCE V.
PHIL CURTIS - CHIEF ENGINEER
Phil resides from Brooklyn, New York. At a young age, he moved to Hawaii and spent five years sailing and working on the water where he developed a passion for the seafaring lifestyle. Shortly after returning to the main land, he decided to make a career in the maritime industry, and has now logged thousands of sea miles cruising the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
His background includes commercial operations onboard container ships, fuel tankers, various motor yachts and multiple NATO missions in the Persian Gulf.
As a decorated sailor, Phil brings a high degree of professionalism, safety and service to the Excellence V program that will help ensure your time spent onboard is enjoyed to the fullest.
ASHLEY KENDALL – CHIEF STEWARDESS
Hailing from the sunny town of Santa Cruz, California, Ashley grew up along the beach and in the water. Her youthful years were spent playing water polo and swimming around the clock with her three older siblings. When not in the water, Ashley buried her head into literature, loving the escapism of stories and far away places. She followed her passion and majored in Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz. With her degree in hand, Ashley decided the world was just too big to not explore. She was presented with an opportunity to work aboard mega yachts in 2008 and has never looked back.
Ashley has worked on vessels ranging from 40m to 86m and most recently took the trip of a lifetime by completing a journey through the Northwest Passage, starting in Newport, Rhode Island and finishing in Vancouver, BC, Canada via the Arctic Circle. Her journey continues around the globe as Chief Stewardess of Excellence V.
PHIL TAYLOR - HEAD CHEF
Phil was born and raised in Exeter, South West England. After completing a year of business school, he went on to study music in the picturesque seaside town of Brighton. Inspired by the local cuisine of Brighton, Phil decided to pursue his new found love for cooking and began a career in the hospitality industry.
Phil spent five years in Michelin star and 3 Rosette kitchens such as "The Greyhound" gastropub, "Drakes" Surrey and "The Square" Mayfair London. Intrigued by the seafaring lifestyle and the new challenge that lied ahead, he packed his bags and headed to Ft. Lauderdale to begin a position onboard the busy charter yacht PASSION as sous chef. He later joined the EXCELLENCE III as sous chef where he trained under the previous long-term head chef for over two years.
Presented with an Executive Chef opportunity, he joined the busy charter yacht Lady Joy where he completed a year as sole chef. Phil has now returned to EXCELLENCE V as Executive Chef and like the rest of his fellow crew members, strives to provide the most exceptional cuisine and highest standard of professionalism in the industry. In his spare time, Phil enjoys playing the guitar, reading, exercising and of course, cooking.
KEVIN KLATT - BOSUN
Kevin spent his youth growing up in the Midwest, United States around Lake Michigan and southern parts of California. While buckling down with his studies in Green Bay, WI for Sports Medicine his heart brought him to San Diego, CA. He continued his education with emphasis on massage therapy and personal training. During this time he was introduced to the wonderful world of yachting and hasn’t looked back since. Kevin has worked on various yachts and holds a MCA Chief Mate 3000gt license. He has traveled the East and West coast of the United States, Great Lakes, Bahamas, Caribbean and the Mediterranean. He loves the outdoors where he can play volleyball, a round of golf, or hit the waves kite-surfing. Whether you would like to take a tender ride to explore beaches, grab some snorkel gear and find local sea life, or go for a relaxing paddleboard session, he will be more than happy to show you a memorable experience.
SEBASTIAN SPRINGER - SOUS CHEF
Sebastian hails from Koblenz, Germany, though he considers himself African at heart. His tenure in Deutschland was short, as he immigrated to South Africa before his first birthday eventually residing in Cape Town. His love for cooking began at a young age, which led to his first chef’s position at a local seaside restaurant. Ten years later, he still maintains a passion and desire towards the culinary arts.
After graduating from South Peninsula College with a Degree in Marketing and seeking a new challenge, Sebastian decided to enter the yachting industry landing his first job onboard the M/Y Mustique (180ft/54m Trinity) where he spent 18 months cruising the Mediterranean. He joined M/Y EXCELLENCE V in November 2012 and has been a welcome addition to the team.
In Sebastian’s off time he enjoys surfing, golfing, swimming and anything outdoor related.
WYNAND BOTHA - SECOND ENGINEER
Born and raised along the laid back coastal town of Port Elizabeth, South Africa Wynand has always enjoyed the outdoors and adventure sport lifestyle. Initially wanting to work on surfing charter yachts after finishing school he opted to study first. In 2006 he graduated from the University of Port Elizabeth with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and further certificates in Projects Management and specific short course studies in Germany.
Having spent 5 years working in the Consulting, Design, Manufacturing & Research environment he decided to leave the Engineering field and follow his other passion and started a company specializing in High-end Architectural application and fitment. Due to economic un-stability he decided to close the company and re-joined the Engineering field, but this time in the Super Yacht industry.
He has since worked onboard S/Y Mirabella III, M/Y Leila Lina, M/Y Casta Diva, M/Y Kogo and now recently joined the team on Excellence V. In his off-time or whenever he gets the time, he still enjoys mountain biking or catching a few waves at his favorite holiday spot back home, St. Francis Bay.
STEPHANIE TRESIDDER - STEWARDESS
Stephanie resides from Duluth, Minnesota located on the Western tip of Lake Superior. Having grown up on one of the Great Lakes, her passion for everything aquatic was embedded at an early age. Upon learning of the yachting industry, she decided to pack up her twelve years of service and hospitality experience and sail the high seas.
Having crewed the last three years onboard various vessels, Stephanie has gained an incredible work ethic and life experiences while never looking back. As an avid outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys paddle boarding, camping, skiing, biking, hiking and teaching fellow crewmembers the art of "speaking Minnesotan."
Along with the rest of the Excellence V crew, she has a passion to provide exceptional service to ensure your stay onboard is a truly wonderful experience.
SARAH MITCHELL – STEWARDESS
Sarah was born and raised in the small southern English town of Haslemere, Surrey. After finishing School she started her career in the hospitality industry, working in Restaurants, Hotels and luxury B&B’s.
After 10 years of hospitality, Sarah decided it was time to head to warmer climates and so started her yachting career in Palma, Majorca.
Since 2009 Sarah has worked on numerous yachts ranging from 70ft up to 236ft, cruising the Mediterranean, US East Coast, Bahamas, Caribbean & Mexico.
In her last 15yrs of hospitality, she has learnt a thing or two about how to make guests happy. With her friendly, easygoing manner, she will make you feel relaxed and ensure that you have a great vacation.
In Sarah’s spare time you will find her paddle boarding, working out, taking long lazy walks along the beach or soaking up the sun with a good book in hand.
SARAH LIND - STEWARDESS
Sarah was raised in a quant hamlet called Alton. She grew up with a big loving family of seven; with four brothers and many animals from birds, bunnies, dogs, cats and horses. She was always outside, building forts and trying to keep up with her brothers, while racing on their dirt bikes and four wheelers. Being the only daughter, it was natural for her to be a tomboy.
However, at the end of high school, Sarah developed the love for fashion and design and in 2007, she completed her degree in Visual Merchandising. After college she started freelancing work in the events industry; coordinating and executing a variety of private, charity and corporate events. After three years of freelancing in Events, she started her career in Fashion with a retail company named Joe Fresh and continued working as a Brand Ambassador for four years.
Starting a new career in the yachting industry is perfect and exciting for Sarah as she can combine her love for working in hospitality and being creative while exploring new places from the ocean.
Joining Excellence V will be a beginning of a thrilling new way of life for Sarah.
ASHLEY PLATT - Ashley grew up in the small coastal town of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Growing up near the water and having a family fishing business sparked an interest in a career onboard the big blue sea.
Prior to yachting Ashley worked for Emirates airlines, a Dubai based company, as a stewardess. This is where her passion for excellent service began.
In her spare time Ashley enjoys being outdoors, hiking, running, tennis and reading.
Ashley’s goals onboard Excellence V are to provide guests with great service and make for an unforgettable trip.
RUAN BOTHA – DECKHAND
Born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, Ruan moved to Boksburg at an early age where he spent most of his childhood. Being inland and hours from the water, he always knew a career closer to the ocean is what he wanted in life.
After completing school focusing on the Hotel Industry, he opened a catering company in his home town and operated a successful business for many years. Yearning for a new adventure and an opportunity to see the world, he landed a Deck/Engineer position in the yachting industry onboard the M/Y Iroquois. He spent two years onboard Iroquois when an opportunity presented itself onboard Excellence V.
Ruan has been with us for six months and strives to provide an unforgettable vacation for guests while onboard.
His hobbies include photography, traveling, sports and exercising.
CHRIS IRBY - DECKHAND
Born in Richmond, VA, Chris spent his childhood on the water, most notably vacationing at his family's summer house on the Chesapeake Bay. It was during these summer months that Chris developed his passion for the sea, partaking in numerous activities such as water sports, sailing and boating. Chris ultimately knew that his career path would eventually lead him to the yachting industry.
After completing High School, Chris continued his education at Radford University where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Being the avid sports fan that he is, he also played lacrosse at university. Upon graduation, the yachting industry was still fresh in his mind and with his bags packed, Chris headed to Ft. Lauderdale where he landed a deckhands position on M/Y Dream. Chris now joins Excellence V and strives to provide guests with a satisfying and memorable experience while onboard. His hobbies include traveling, golf, fitness and water activities.
MARSHALL BARRES - DECKHAND
Marshall was born in Westerly, RI and grew up in a house on the harbor in southeastern Connecticut. It was there that Marshall grew his passion for the sea by taking his JY15 sailboat out almost every day that was warm enough. In high school, Marshall moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where he could enjoy his water sports year round.
After high school Marshall attended the University of Florida where he majored in Economics and minored in Entrepreneurship. After graduating from a landlocked university, Marshall got back to his roots and headed back towards the coast. Upon joining yachting, Marshall heard from his only friend in the industry about Excellence V and set his sights toward getting a job onboard. Nine months later, Marshall’s dream came true. Marshall looks forward to providing outstanding client satisfaction combined with a delightful experience. His hobbies include all sports, especially soccer, music, and business.

EXCELLENCE V Accommodations
Recently launched by Abeking & Rasmussen, this 7 stateroom marvel continues the tradition of superb performance and exceptional amenities demanded by her very experienced owner.
EXCELLENCE V has the volume and interior comfort of a 75 meter yacht in 60 meters of intimate perfection and still fits into smaller preferred marinas such as St. Barth’s. Her sweeping exterior lines complement the vastness of the striking interior by the renowned design team of Reymond Langton Design. Huge windows allow for ample natural light and fantastic views. The circular glass elevator is accessible to guests from all decks.
The expansive master suite encompasses the entire forward area of the upper deck with a large skylight overhead and 180 degree panoramic views from oversized windows. There is private access to the owner’s walk around terrace with Jacuzzi. An additional King stateroom is also located aft of the master suite.
Five en suite guest staterooms are located on the main deck forward of the foyer.
Amenities include a Gym, Cinema, and Beach Club on the lower deck; the Gym and Beach club each feature an island style terrace. The galley is below and all toys & tenders stowed in the garage – making her interior and exterior decks free for total guest enjoyment.
Dine alfresco on the bridge deck aft, or watch your favorite sport at the sports bar. A second large Jacuzzi is located on the sundeck for guest use and aft sun beds on both the sundeck and bridge deck levels. All decks have generous seating and ample awnings for shade.
