Crew Profile

Chris and Julie Bennett have been a team, on land and on the water, for more than 30 years. Over the last 15 years they have completed close to 400 charters, first on their 51' monohull called Blu Moon, and now on their 65' Privilege catamaran, Felicia, sailing throughout the Caribbean from Puerto Rico, to the US and British Virgin Islands, and as far south as the Grenadines and the Tobago Cays . Their love of sailing, discovering fantastic water venues and meeting interesting people from all over the world has “hooked” them to this lifestyle. Chris and Julie met in Kansas City, where Chris was starting a career in mechanical engineering and Julie was attending college, pursuing an art degree. It was there that Chris and Julie became certified Open Water SCUBA divers.

Captain Chris was born in London, England where he went to the London Institute of Technology for mechanical engineering. Growing up, he learned wood working and found his love of the water. He began his sailing life on the local waters of the English Channel. Following a move to the United States, Chris became the district sales manager for an east coast engineering company and pursued a successful career for 15 years. His love of sailing brought him back to the water in 1998, where he and Julie began chartering, starting the next adventure in their lives together. Chris's mechanical skills compliment his expert seamanship, and ensure that the guests are in good hands on board Felicia. He loves sailing, teaching guests the basics of helmsmanship, and guiding guests on interesting snorkel trips. He also loves to find those out-of-the-way spots where his guests can explore quiet anchorages or hike a deserted beach, or just sit back aboard Felicia with one of his specialty Captain's Cocktails in hand!

Chef and first mate Julie was raised and educated a half a world away from Chris, in Kansas, where she grew up enjoying riding horses and raising dogs. She always had a love of art, and following high school pursued a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts, specializing in pottery and sculpture, at the Kansas City Art Institute. Following college, she moved into the business world and obtained her Masters in Human Resources, where she became the Director of Human Resources in a Kansas-based diagnostics laboratory. Julie's culinary talents are proudly “home schooled”....she gives credit to her mother who inspired her to cook from a young age, as well as her world travels. She's taken inspiration from culinary genres from all over the US to exotic venues around the world, inspiring Caribbean influenced dishes as well as good old-fashioned heart-of-America cooking. Julie can tailor your menu to include special dietary needs such as low-fat, vegetarian, or low-carb food plans. She enjoys ensuring people get what they need on their vacation, be it quiet time to unwind with a tropical cocktail in hand, listening to a great selection of music, fishing, snorkeling or a little bit of each!

Chris and Julie live in France during the summer months, where for the last 8 summers, they have been restoring a 250+ year old Quercy Blanc stone farmhouse, located in southwest department, Tarn-et-Garonne. Felicia, Chris and Julie's home for 9 months of the year, is cared for and maintained to keep her in the best possible condition for your stay on board. Their wealth of knowledge of the waters of the the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean, combined with their knowledge of sailing and seamanship, their love of what's above and below the water....and having fun with new people, blend to make your vacation on “Island Time” one not to be soon forgotten!

Barefoot Pirates!

Chris & Julie,

Thanks for the trip of a lifetime.  What beauty you have shown us.  Your hospitality was the best ever, man...what a cook,

Ms. Julie.  Sheila & John

Chris & Julie,

Thank you so much for a trip of a lifetime.  You helped make our 10 year anniversary more than I could have ever dreamed.  The food and drinks were "out of this world"!  Motion sickness is a "thing of the past".  I am sure the captain had a lot to do with it!!  Thanks again for your friendship.  We look forward to returning to Felicia soon...Many more happy sails.

Love ya!  CC & Joey

Bonjour St. Martin and St. Barths!

Julie and Chris-

Oh we are back to reality!  It is amazing how much piles up while we are away, but as always it is good to be home- especially to give Ollie a hug when we come through the door.  I know you know how sweet that can be.....

We had a fabulous time and are so glad to have experienced Felicia.  It is so nice of you to send the recipes, which I know will bring us right back to the West Indies when I make them here at home.

Thank you, thank you and good luck with the remainder of your charters and hope that your time in France is productive and relaxing for both of you.  The house looks amazing with all your hard work. Enjoy a glass- or two!- of Rose for us.

All the best,

Jim and Lauren

Julie & Chris,

We had a fantastic time with you guys and were so happy to see you and your new “wide girl”, she is beautiful!  It was tough to leave the boat for our....last few days on St. Barths.  Hope your final charters in the BVI’s go well!

Fun Filled Days
What a nice email! Our trip home was easy! I am still rocking a bit especially after taking the train to Washington D.C. today to see a friend. We had a great time in the BVIs and miss it already. Even with the short stay it was magical. Next time for sure we want to do 7 or 8 days so we can get out to Anegada and some remote little coves and such!
Familia Columbia!
Dearest Chris & Julie:
Definitely this has been by far the best ever sailing experience Flavia & I have had in all senses:  the crew unforgetable!  The boat outstanding, the scenery just perfect, the sailing incomparable, the food marvelous and especially the care on Flavia's eating requirements was really appreciated for a whole spectacular trip where we made a new and very special friends which we hope to see again soon.   Edgar-Flavia
From the UK...
We can't put into words what an amazing time we have had.  Fell in love with beauty and relaxed charm of BVI, but it was the knowledge of the skipper and the hospitality and charm (not to mention fantastic cuisine) of the "Galley Slaves" that made is such a special New Years experience.
We thought the week in the BVI on FELICIA exceeded all expectations. Chris was undoubtedly not only a skipper who knew how to master the yacht, but had an intimate knowledge of the islands and reefs. Julie was a great cook, utterly charming and all our children adored her and the 'mate' Kris.
All in all, a fantastic experience, the yacht and crew were brilliant!
Thank You!!!

High School Reunion!
Dear Julie and Chris,
Thanks so much for a wonderful vacation - it was the best ever and I smile every time I think of the wonderful week. I loved being on Felicia and will definitely do it again. You both made the experience unforgettable and were such great hosts.
I love some of the pictures you took and can't wait to see the others. I didn't take any but I know some of the other girls did.
I'll keep in touch. I'd rather be on Felicia than in Florida.
