FLYING GINNY Crew Profile

CAPTAIN Austin Marshal

Austin Marshal is from Greenville, South Carolina and loves all things “in and on the water”. He spent many hours on the lake near his home in Greenville, South Carolina fishing, boating, wake boarding and diving. While on a family dive vacation in the BVI, Austin realized his “training” on the lake could actually turn into a dream job in the islands.

Graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in business management, Austin went on to complete his US Coast Guard Captain training and promptly headed back to the BVI. With his easy going, well rounded personality he soon got a do-it-all job with a large charter company on Tortola which provided a hands on crash course in all aspects of the charter yacht business – from dock work and yacht maintenance to private and large group sailing and dive excursions.

Austin has logged over 1500 miles in the USVI and BVI and knows the very best spots to cater to guests’ interests and activity preferences. From the best snorkel, dive and fishing sites to calm quiet bays to try out the paddle boards and all of the water toys, Austin has it covered. And for those looking for a little more excitement on the water, Austin is happy to give wake board lessons or taking you on the most fun tube ride ever. Being a true buccaneer he can also deliver you to hopping beach bars for the happiest of happy hours or spin the sails and whisk you to a secluded anchorage, serving up cocktails while you relax and watch the sun slip away after another magical day.

CHEF / FIRST MATE Philippa King

Having completed a law degree in Scotland, Philippa, who was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, embraced her love of travel. She initially moved to Portugal and worked for a couple of seasons in a shore-based dive centre where she honed her underwater skills and found her sea legs. The next obvious step was a long passage to the warm waters of the Caribbean where she spent the next 14 months in the BVI, working as a Dive Instructor on a 105 ft sailing boat.

Philippa’s love of cooking was also put to good use on the large yacht where she worked alongside the head chef preparing meals for up to 27 guests each evening. Philippa has tons of experience adapting meals and menu plans to ensure delicious creative meals are suited to each guest’s dietary needs or preferences. Philippa trained at the famous Ashburton Chef Academy in Devonshire England, where she honed her culinary skills and qualified as a professional chef. You will love her sauces and she is never happier than when a guest catches fresh fish while on charter, which she expertly cleans, seasons and grills to perfection just in time for lunch.

Philippa has spent countless hours exploring the islands and knows many of the great spots to dive, snorkel, hike, drink and eat! She cannot wait to welcome you aboard and share her insider tips of the best that the BVI has to offer with you! Little known fact: Philippa is the current undefeated FoosBall Champion of the BVI and gladly accepts a challenge from anyone.

June 2014
Thank you for your interest regarding our experience on the Flying Ginny.  We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the company of Captain Scully and Casey.   Captain Scully’s knowledge of the area enabled him to take us to  beautiful snorkeling sites with abundant marine life and breathtaking settings.  He was able to accommodate our requests and he provided interesting  locations to visit.  His expertise at sailing is quite apparent and he made the trip one of the  most relaxing I have ever experienced.  I was impressed how the cabins and yacht were kept in pristine condition at all times.  Captain Scully and Casey are true professionals.

Casey is a master chef!  All the meals she prepared were absolutely delicious as well as beautifully presented.   It is unbelievable that she is able to prepare outstanding fine cuisine in such a tiny kitchen (galley!).  She has a lovely personality and is a true joy to be around.

My sons and I truly enjoyed the whole experience.  They are both quiet and I think that Cpt. Scully was wondering if they were enjoying themselves.  He can rest assured that they most certainly did…….they talked about it for days and I overheard them telling their friends about the fun they had sailing and snorkeling.

I enjoyed my time on the Flying Ginny and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in visiting the British Virgin Islands.  I wish we had booked it for a longer period of time.

Peter,
Amazing is the first and only superlative I will use as I would run out of them.
Both you and KC not only looked after the gang but blew them away with your knowledge, food and great attention to detail going out of your way to make sure they all had a great experience and holiday.
I wish you all the best stay safe and be lucky.
Thank you so much again.
Regards,
Brian

Christmas 2013

We all had a great sail in Flying Ginny VII. Captain Peter did a superb job of getting us to good anchorages, and allowed us to utilize our time to the utmost. KC has to win honors for her meal presentations - each one was delicious and tasty. They both were very easy to get along and would go out of the way to please us. We enjoyed this crew and highly recommend them.

JULY 22, 2013

Dear Broker –  Our delay was only because we didn't want to have to acknowledge that our vacation was over.  We had mentioned to you on several occasions that we wanted “the trip of a lifetime” so as to create memories with our boys before they got too old and went on their separate ways…..and you and the crew of Flying Ginny delivered in a big way (this is where Judi will start to cry when she reads this).

Flying into St Thomas the day before the charter was a great option.  We got to enjoy the island life, do some swimming, and even rented a few jet skis which the boys really enjoyed.  Coming from New York it was a fantastic change and we really enjoyed the day to help slip into the vacation.  I think it would have been a bit of a letdown had we gone back to St Thomas after the charter since the charter had raised the bar so dramatically.

The food throughout the charter was fantastic and really made us feel pampered.  The portions were plentiful and KC obviously had used our preferences to design the menu - which can be challenging with 2 teenage boys.

We sat with Peter and made our initial itinerary the first day which included all the hot spots we wanted to hit.  We also worked in some flexibility depending on weather and how many hours we wanted to spend sailing each day.

The trip was FANTASTIC.  We had very high expectations and the trip met every one.  We are also very thankful for your guidance in first selecting a crewed charter over the bare boat option we were first considering.  Having a crew allowed us to fully relax and eliminate the stress of navigating the waters, identifying the anchorages, and dealing with cooking.  Selecting the Flying Ginny was also a GREAT recommendation.  We really got along with them well.  They allowed us our family time, provided great insights into the various things to see and do, and became our friends.

Follow up from Judi:

I am crying now:-(

I wish we could have brought KC home with us...she set the bar quite high for our home cooking.

The Crew of Flying Ginny will come very highly recommended at every chance we may have!

APRIL 2012

Hi Peter, its (young) Tom from your last charter.  I just wanted to email to say thank you once again for everything you did for us.  it was the best birthday I had thanks to you guys, so thank you.  I will continue to play continental and use everything you taught me to help me win!  I also loved learning more about sailing and the boat, too bad there wasn't more wind! Please tellRuth I say hello and that her cooking was great. Thank you once again, Tom B

Dear Peter and Ruth,

Well we made it home safely, to cold and rainy weather.  Of course the ferry we were taking only went on Sunday's,  so we had breakfast across the street, after waiting forever in customs, we made the flight.

We want to thank you again for giving us a trip that we will always remember.  But mostly, thank you for being so kind to Tom and Kahler.

We want to come back..............we are cold!

Best Wishes,

Kim, Tom, Kahler and Tom
