Crew Profile

Captain: Jason van Groeningen (25)

Jason and Kate share a passion for life on the water, exploring and sailing, captivated by the oceans secrets. They love what they do and their enthusiasm is tangible. They welcome their guests with warmth and charm, and look forward to introducing you to the paradise they call home.

They are both commercially endorsed Yacht Masters, with over 45 000 nautical miles between the two of them and multiple Trans Atlantic crossings. They have been chartering and sailing together as captain and chef for the past 3 years, from Panama and Columbia to the Virgin Islands, Bahamas and east coast of the USA. Jason completed a delivery in 2013 from Cape Town, South Africa to the Caribbean, around the same time Kate came across aboard her parent’s charter catamaran. Their yachting careers took them to Fort Lauderdale, where they met whilst working aboard Super Yachts. After working successfully aboard larger yachts, they decided it was time to branch out on their own in the Virgin Islands and are proud to be the team aboard Foxy Lady.

Jason grew up on the west coast of South Africa and is an avid sailor, surfer and free diver, with a love for fishing. He has a diverse set of interests, having studied at the Campus for Performing Arts prior to embarking on his yachting career, and plays classical piano and guitar. Jason is friendly, hardworking and goes above an beyond to make your trip a memorable one. Kate grew up cruising the Indian and Atlantic Oceans with her family, totaling 20 000 NM over six years, having left her home of South Africa at age 4. She has been in hospitality for the last 10 years and completed an International Hospitality Diploma with the Private Hotel School in Cape Town, before meeting Jason. She has worked as a chef aboard yachts ever since and absolutely loves it! She aims to surprise and delight all her guests with culinary treats and has an good eye for detail, passion for cooking and curiosity for life.

Together, Jason and Kate hope to share with you their love of the Virgin Islands, fascination with it’s history and the open, happy generosity that has become synonymous with charting with them.

Testimonials

Janury 2015
Adrian and  Gill (owners of Foxy Lady) just wanted to pass along that we just returned from  our 4-night cruise on the Foxy Lady - It was for my 50th birthday and far exceeded our expecttions.  The pictures on the net could not do the boat justice,  and it looked brand new.  Grant and  Tara were pros, but with the perfect combo of laid back and  professional.   The food was as good as any fine restaurant- the Stags Leap wine on the last night was a real treat.  We covered everything we wanted to in the 4 days, and Grant was spot on with what we needed to see and do.  We will hopefully be back again with our kids at some point.
Thanks again  - a true class boat and  crew.
All the best,  Dave

Your level of professionalism and hospitality throughout our adventure was world class. Tara - You are an amazing cook ! Captain Grant - The ports you chose were absolutely stunning. Exceptional commentary from a group of UK-based Travel Agents that catamaran FOXY LADY hosted aboard in late November.
• Leanne Elliott: Nautilus Yachting
What a fantastic yacht! There is honestly nothing I can fault with Foxy Lady – the amenities and water sports were great, food was fantastic and crew lovely and friendly. I hope to be sending clients their way very soon!
• Lisa Cowan: Abercrombie & Kent
Foxy Lady was incredible! A real special treat. I certainly hope to be able to sell this in the future to A&K clients. Food lovely, very fresh, tasty and light. Tara and grant very warm and friendly. Boat immaculate condition. 10 out of 10.
• Marion Cadman: ITC
An amazing trip on Foxy Lady. Grant and Tara were excellent, professional, friendly and feel confident sending top clients to them. Beautiful boat and lovely accommodation and a great lunch. A great combination with a hotel and surprisingly good value.
• Diane Ibson: Blue Bay Travel
Well!!! What an amazing day. The yacht was stunning. Grant and Tara were wonderful hosts, they had a bottle of champagne on ice when we boarded. The bedrooms were beautiful and better than I thought they would be. The lunch that we had was gorgeous. This is something that I really want to promote. Then to top it off we saw the turtles!!!
• Linda Brown: Exceptional Villas
The Yacht was amazing. I was so impressed with the team on board. Tara and Grant were very nice and friendly. Food was fantastic. The boat was spotlessly clean and it was one of the best days we spent in the BVI. I felt the rate was very good at 33k for one week and feel it’s definitely something I can market to my clients. I have no constructive criticism of Foxy Lady, it was the perfect day.
• Anna Rushbrooke: Western and Oriental
What an incredible experience! They yacht was beautiful and Tara and Grant made a great team. I’ll be recommending my clients to stay and sail packages. The whole package is excellent with all the water sports included.
Perfect lunch of fresh salads just what you want when you are in and out of the water.
• Sarah Godwin: Kuoni
Complete quality! Amazing experience and felt very good value for money for the quality. Can we have the daily charter rate? Need to speak to Kuoni product department regarding the potential in this as I’m not sure we are using this to our benefit as much as we could / should!
• Robert Santry: Best at Travel
Wow wow wow! One of… sorry the best sailing I have ever done. What a way to experience these islands. The staff were amazing. I would love to go back and recommend the product. I felt like a celebrity travel agent swimming to Cooper lol. The only negative was having to get off the yacht, love all the water sports you could do from the yacht… beautiful lunch.
