He was born and raised on a farm before discovering his true passion lay on the world’s oceans. He began his education at a maritime college, which initiated an early career on fast ferries before discovering the exciting world of yachting. With more than 16 years as a professional in the industry you are in safe and capable hands. He has extensive experience in managing, operating and maintaining yachts to a high level on vessels up to 280ft. His goal is to ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable trip on Gladius.

CHIEF STEWARDESS | Nina Thomas

Biography: Nina is originally from South Africa, but left at a young age to go sailing with her family where she had the privilege of completing a trans-Atlantic crossing, and extensive travel around the Caribbean. She has also sailed the eastern seaboard of the United States. During her eight-year stay in England working in the hospitality industry, she gained experience in both restaurants, a boutique wine & sushi bar, and as a property manager/housekeeper of a private country home. Nina has a keen interest in the sciences & completed a BSc. (Hons) Physiotherapy in 2013. After graduating, she decided to join the super yacht industry, and enrolled at UKSA on the Isle of Wight, Cowes to complete the necessary training. Nina has recently joined M/Y Gladius and looks forward to many new adventures with guests aboard. Nina is both musical and enjoys beautiful and elegant things, and a refined life, which she hopes to share with you on your travel adventures together aboard our charters.

SECOND STEWARDESS | Marin McGill

Biography: Marin hails from the Great North otherwise known as Canada. She went to Florida for the first time at the age of 6 and fell in love with the South. After working in Human Resources Marin decided to join the yachting industry in 2011, and flew straight to the Caribbean. In between working on super yachts Marin went to New Zealand and obtained a degree as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist before returning to work on yachts full time again. In her spare time you can find her reading, working out, or playing in the water.

CHEF | Renee Dreyer

Biography: Reneé is from Cape Town, South Africa. Her Education was within Public relations and she has also studied and gained a diploma in Culinary Arts. Reneé is a well-travelled individual spending a year in Thailand and two years in the Middle East. Prior to yachting Reneeé worked as an Air Hostess for Qatar Airways. Since then, starting in yachting in 2011, she has always been involved with the cooking aspect from cook/stew to Sous Chef and now Chef on Motor Yacht Gladius. “You only live once and if you live it right then once is enough” Reneé lives by and with her enthusiastic and upbeat personality, is always looking to the positive side of life.

FIRST MATE | Jean-Claude Du Plessis
Previous Yachts: M/Y Dnatalin IV (2YRS)
Biography: Jean-Claude grew up in the coastal city of Durban South Africa, his devotion to physical fitness and enjoyment of sports led him to become a semi- professional rugby player. Fueled by a love for adrenaline water sports, he is a keen wake boarder, swimmer and water polo player. As first mate this is something JC (as we affectionately know him) would like to offer to guests enjoying the numerous water toys aboard M/Y Gladius. After a few years in the industry however, JC is not only familiar with yachting but also to the aviation world, where he is in the process of completing a helicopter pilots license. His hands on approach to maintaining and managing the deck department, has been honed through hard work, a cheerful approach and a happy personality with a “can do” attitude. He has worked his way up from humble beginnings as a deckhand, through 3 years on Superyachts travelling the west coast of the USA extensively as well as Alaska. A person of strong principle and huge eagerness to learn all aspects of yachting, maintenance and navigation – JC welcomes you aboard M/Y Gladius.

ENGINEER |Scott Davies
Previous Yachts: M/Y Solemar 203’
Biography: Scott our engineer, was born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa, whereupon finding his aptitude for mechanics he relocated to the coastal city of Cape Town to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. This suited his love for watersports, where he partook in deep sea fishing, swimming, water polo and diving – which he then took to rescue diver level. Scott’s combination of training in engineering, and ocean experiences, then got him into the world of yachts and yacht engines. He recently completed an extensive Eastern and Western Mediterranean season visiting 14 countries. His hard work ethic, mechanical background, and love for things being in tip top working order - makes him passionate about learning the many aspects of yachting mechanics. Scott’s desire to travel and experience culture, while working in a methodical, technical field, makes him the perfect candidate to head up the M/Y Gladius engineering department.Scott’s interests include outdoor activities, ocean sports in all forms and rugby.
