KALEEN Crew Profile
Captain: Andre Swanepoel
Andre was born and raised on the South African East coast, in the coastal City of Durban. Soon after completing High School Andre got bitten by the travel bug and hasn’t stopped traveling since. He first joined the yachting scene when he did a Trans Atlantic crossing from South Africa to the Caribbean in 2000. He started working on Day Charter yachts in the Caribbean gaining experience and working his way towards his Captains license in 2003. He has since worked on numerous large yachts, sailing and motor. Andre is very accommodating to the guests needs, and combining this with his excellent knowledge of cruising grounds, you are assured of a memorable stay on the yacht Kaleen.
First Mate: Gerry Turnbull
Gerry is an Aussie from Cairns, Australia where he spent several years as a dive instructor on the Great Barrier Reef before he set off for Fort Lauderdale to pursue yachting. As a dive instructor on board a live aboard diving vessel, he enjoyed showing his clients a memorable and exciting holiday. He discovered and further educated himself on ocean life and ran excursions such as shark feeds. It was easy for Gerry to transition from dive boats to yachts and he has been successfully making yacht client’s charters just as memorable. In his spare time, Gerry enjoys all physical activities, travel, reading, and watching movies. Gerry’s pleasant demeanor and patience are sure to enhance the client’s stay aboard MY Kaleen.
Chef: Juan Dormehl
Juan hails from South Africa and grew up in a coastal town called Mossel Bay. After graduating from High School he took to traveling through the United Kingdom, working in hotel kitchens, where he ultimately discovered his talent and love for cooking. He returned to South Africa and enrolled at Zewenwacht Chef School in Stellenbosch. He graduated as Chef with diplomas in Patisserie, Culinary Arts and Cooking Principles. Juan started working at a Moroccan restaurant as Demi Chef and quickly worked his way up to Head Chef. He wanted to broaden his culinary vision and accepted a position as Chef at the Hilton on City Avenue in Philadelphia where he worked for a year., Next, he took to the seas on a 6500 mile Atlantic crossing and has been on yachts ever since. Juan specializes in European Fusion cooking but easily adapts to the guest’s requests as his culinary background and experience is very broad.
Chief Stewardess: Jodie Grubbs
Jodie is from Annapolis Maryland, which means all she needs is some blue crabs and good live music to have a good time. She graduated from Towson University in Baltimore, MD, with a major in communications in 2007. Immediately after, Jodie moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to pursue yachting and to satisfy her passion for travel. She has been a stewardess in the yachting industry for three years now. In her spare time, Jodie enjoys the outdoors, exercising, camping, riding motorcycles, and the beach. She also enjoys the arts including music, reading, dance, and movies. Her family and friends are very important to her and she loves spending time with them when she is away from yachting. Most importantly, Jodie is a fun, caring, and outgoing person who hopes to make the client’s memories on board Kaleen amazing and unforgettable.
