KATYA Crew Profile

Captain – Brian Muston

South African. Brian has lived on yachts since the age of ten. At a young age he had already learnt a great deal about yachts and the ocean. At the age of 14 Brian and his family left South Africa on their 38m sailing yacht PHESHEYA on a world cruise. From January 1998 to October 2000 he lived in South Africa and owned and operated a computer consulting company that later expanded to supply and service Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems. Brian has extensive knowledge in all aspects of yachts, which range from yacht operation, vessel handling, repairs and refits, yacht design and layout, as well as yacht insurance, flagging and registration. Brian has worked on a number of yachts including ROSENKAVALIER, PRINSESS TANYA, LADY AZTECA, M/Y SEA DWELLER, M/Y MARATHON, and M/Y YANUARIYA. Brian has 20 years of experience in Yacht Charter, new builds and refits. Brian is a hard working member of the crew onboard KATYA.



First Officer – Riaan Coetzer

South African. Riaan grew up in South Africa and has always had a love for the sea. Before his yachting career took off he worked as a Production Manager for a health farm and completed a Diploma in Personal Training and Exercise Specialist in 2005. Riaan joined his first yacht in 2008 and since his employment as First Mate has covered over 100,000 nm with five Atlantic crossings and cruised extensively around the Mediterranean, Croatia and the USA East Coast, as well as completing five shipyard periods. Over the years Riaan has served as First Mate on board M/Y SEA DWELLER (47M), M/Y LADY DUVERA (45m) and M/Y LOTUS (38m), allowing him to further his professional experience. Riaan is heavily involved in organizing the water sports programs for the guest while on board. In his spare time her enjoys surfing, kayaking, golf, fishing, snorkeling, wakeboarding and jet skiing.



Chef – Jesse Plumb

Australian. Jesse grew up in Tasmania and began learning to cook at 4 years old learning at home, then began his formal training with an apprenticeship as a chef at 16. Working in award winning restaurants in Tasmania he qualified his apprenticeship and worked in a number of restaurants, running successful kitchens and his own catering business. He learned his art also with cocktail mixology and wine knowledge at wineries and bars in Tasmania. After 10yrs in hospitality he moved to the professional world of yachting as a Chef, working throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean for over 3 years to date. His culinary repertoire has a wide range of cuisines and styles and his commitment to quality and clientele satisfaction is paramount. Having worked as chef on a range of yachts such as MY GATTOPARDO VI, MY ELLIX Too, MY JADE MARY, MY CYAN and SY SYMMETRY, his experience has given a great foundation to succeed in tantalizing taste buds and satisfying the dining experiences of guests for trips to come. Outside of cooking his interests are found in sport, wine appreciation, travelling, and photography, though food has become the main focus of his adventurous life.



Chief Stewardess – Carli Botha

South African. Carli was born in South Africa. Before joining the yachting industry, she managed a four star lodge in Hermanus, South Africa where her responsibilities included day to day management of the guest lodge and its staff, organizing and directing all guest lodge services including the house, food and beverage operations and housekeeping. Carli made the transition to the yachting industry in 2010. Since joining the industry Carli has gained experience working on board M/Y GIORGIA (38m), M/Y AGATA (34m), M/Y PESTIFER (50m) and M/Y JANA (46m) before becoming a valuable member of M/Y KATYA in 2011. When Carli is not working she enjoys scuba diving, all water sports, photography and traveling.



2nd Stewardess – Sarah Pitchford

South African. Sarah joined the yachting industry in April 2011 on a 73m motor yacht and joined M/Y KATYA in May this year for her second season in the Mediterranean. Sarah is also a qualified Life Saver and enjoys swimming. She has a very calm personality and she knows how to make guests feel welcome and at ease to enable them to relax and enjoy their time onboard.



3rd Stewardess – Cayla Platt

South African. Cayla joined M/Y KATYA in December 2011 and has since completed a Caribbean season and also a crossing from the US to the Mediterranean. She has a very bubbly personality and unending energy. Cayla is a very pleasant person to be around and she is forever smiling. One of her signature skills is making the best cocktails.



Engineer – Lasse Kynde

Lasse is from Denmark where he worked as a ship fitter for 4 years before continuing his education into ship hydraulic. He brings his vast experience maintaining and repairing catamarans, ships and yachts to KATYA. Lasse has traveled the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the eastern shores of the USA. He has received his Y3 Engineer Certification.



Deckhand – Miles O'Sullivan

South African. Miles has been in the yachting industry for just over a year. Before he started working on super yachts, he was a deckhand on a delivery of a 47ft power catamaran from Cape Town, South Africa to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. He spent 5 months in St Martin working on various motor- and sail yachts getting the experience he needs to further his career in the yachting industry. He has completed two Atlantic crossings and hopes to do many more in the future. He enjoys water sports, fishing, and assisting in any type of engineering department.



Deckhand – Hendrik Coetzer

Hendrik joined M/Y Katya in September 2012. He offers an enthusiasm that blends well with the positive attitude of the entire crew. He was born and grew up in South Africa where he was involved in Project Management and construction. Hendrik left the country in 2012 and subsequently became involved in the yachting industry where he has been working since. Hendrik is a very responsible, intelligent and hardworking crewmember. He brings a high level of service and exceptional work ethic to M/Y KATYA. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys the exciting travel opportunities and challenges that the industry provides. His attention to detail and professional approach is a great asset to M/Y KATYA.

KATYA Accommodations

KATYA can accommodate 12 guests in 5 cabins.
The Master cabin has a king size bed, bath/tub, shower and toilet.
2 Guest cabins have a king size bed, bath/tub, shower and toilet.
A Guest cabin has a queen size bed, shower and toilet.
A Guest cabin has a single bed, a pullman, shower and toilet.
KATYA  is fully air conditioned through out.  This is a non-smoking vessel.  KATYA´s crew has a separate heads and shower. Guests are not allowed to bring pets onboard.
