KESTREL Crew Profile

Captain: Ian Heseltine, Age: 43, British
Ian is a driven individual who has worked professionally in the yachting industry for the last 6 years, sailing over 50,000 miles in that time. He achieved the role of Captain in 2010 when he worked aboard the 23m SY Aurelius – a modern Classic sloop. During his time on Aurelius and previously on Moonbird – a 37m Dubois sloop, Ian sailed extensively in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, East Coast of the USA, Nova Scotia, and has crossed the Atlantic 6 times. Ian has a background in Product Design and Project Management, which came in very useful during the commissioning phase of Kestrel. Ian has also worked onboard Cinderella 2 and MY Galaxy.
Engineer/Mate: Piotr Merchel, Age: 31, Polish
Piotr has worked in the yachting industry for the last 6 years on a range of yacht sizes carrying out many different tasks. Most recently he worked onboard ‘la Cattiva’ a 38m Dubois ketch, where he developed his deck skills and gravitated towards engineering – getting involved in many aspects of boat maintenance. Piotr has sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. His greatest passion is sailing but also has many other interests such as rock-climbing, fishing, hunting, skiing and diving.
Chef: Jesica Spada, Age: 28, Italian / Argentinian
Jesica has had a passion for cooking from a young age. Having grown up in Argentina, Milan and Mallorca, Jesica draws upon a range of influences and can cook many different styles of food from Asian, French, Spanish, Italian and Mexican with a personal preference for Mediterranean style food. She completed her cooking diploma in 2010 at the Alcari Culinary School in Spain. Jesica has gained experience as Chef/Chief Stewardess on a range of yachts over a period of 8 years. Most recently she spent 18 months on the SY Aurelius with her partner Captain Ian Heseltine. As well as cooking, Jesicas’ hobbies include playing the guitar, reading, tennis and a range of water-sports.
Deckhand/Stewardess: Megan Carkeek, Age: 25, South African
Megan grew up in Pretoria and spent 8 years living in Cape Town where she completed a Degree in Business and Marketing and worked in a graphic design agency. Megan travelled and worked in many countries around Europe before settling in Antibes. In 2011 she worked onboard a 27m Riva motorboat based out of Antibes visiting many ports in the Western Mediterranean. In her spare time Megan enjoys diving and maintains a keen interest in technology.

KESTREL Accommodations
KESTREL can accommodate 10 guests in 4 cabins. The Master cabin has a double bed, shower and toilet. 2 Guest cabins have 2 single beds, a pullman, shower and toilet. A Guest cabin has a double bed, shower and toilet. KESTREL is fully air conditioned through out. Crew has a separate heads and shower.
