Crew Profile

Captain: Philippe

Philippe has always dreamed of living the island lifestyle. After growing up in Toulouse, France, Philippe moved to Martinique where he learned to sail. Finally, in 2003, he made his dream a reality by obtaining his 200 sail STCW license. Although he has sailed both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, his favorite grounds are in the Caribbean, St. Martin and the British Virgin Islands to be exact. His local knowledge of hidden places and local hot spots enables him to take his guests to the best places throughout the islands.

When Philippe is sailing, he enjoys windsurfing, scuba diving and fishing. He appreciates meeting new people, traveling to new places, and making new friends along the way! Philippe is very excited to share his passion for sailing and the island way of life with guests aboard Marmot.

MARMOT can accommodate 8 guests in 4 cabins. The Master cabin (starboard aft) has a queen size bed, separate shower, toilet and double basin sinks. One guest cabin (port aft) has queen bed, separate shower and toilet. 1 guest cabin (starboard forward) has double bed and wet head (shower with toilet).  1 guest cabin mid-ship has bunk beds with it's own wet head.  These 2 cabins share a hallway and make a perfect 'kids quarters' separate from the other cabins.  Crew is in forward aft cabin off the galley with their own head and shower.  Each cabin has it's own air conditioner with controls.

The MARMOT crew served as our personal hotel style concierge, listening to what we wanted to do and adjusting the itinerary to accommodate.  Being our first trip to the BVI, we asked for their advice many, many, times on every topic imaginable, ranging from snorkeling spots to land transportation to time management to shore bars and on and on.  They not only gave recommendations that suited our group extremely well, but were always willing to take time to answer, even when they were busy with meals and sailing the boat.  We are already planning our next trip with MARMOT to take us to more of their favorite spots in the BVI!
Melinda and Barry Lewis, Texas  - June 2013

Great food, good friends and a crew that blended right in - what more could one ask for on vacation?  The MARMOT crew are hospitable and fun loving, easy going and eager to make sure their guests have a memorable experience.  They work very efficiently as a team with the Chef involved in the sailing tasks during the day and the Captain even assisting in meal prep in the galley!  The captain was also one of the best bartenders we have experienced in the islands!
The Sayres - May 2013

You can say "Your crew is responsible for sailing the boat and preparing your meals."  While accurate, that statement doesn't come close to describing what this crew did for us.  The effort they put in to anticipate and accommodate our every whim was quite frankly unbelievable.  I don't think any of us expected a crew that worked that hard for us from early morning until late at night.  We enjoyed being catered to but also enjoyed they put aside their 'chores' to play Catchphrase with us after dinner. They started as our crew but now they are our friends.
The Meyers - April 2013

Having kids on board means constant entertainment.  MARMOT's crew have a vast collection of games including Uno, Mastermind, Blokus, Backgammon, Spotify, LFC and Apples to Apples (our kids favorite).  Our kids were never bored on this vacation and truly enjoyed having The Captain and Chef worked always worked as a team and showed them the fun world of GeoCaching (modern day scavenger hunts). One can tell this crew were adventurous as kids and wanted our kids to enjoy their vacation with lots of activities.  Our Chef on board MARMOT prepared kid friendly meals so no one got hungry or cranky.  We especially enjoyed that she had kid dinners early so they could go to bed and watch a movie while we had a quite, romantic dinner later.  Captain spent hours pulling the kids on the water toys so they were tired and ready to retire early.  Our family had a fantastic vacation thanks to these two hard working crew.
