MCGREGOR II Crew Profile

Crew Trivia:

Tim has lived on boats for more than 1/2 of his life!!

Julie is a running "Cheetah" and is more than happy to show you our beautiful trails!

During the "off-season," when hurricanes threaten, we put McGregor II in the boatyard and head to the mountains of Evergreen, Colorado!

Captain Tim Miller hails from Colorado, where he graduated from C.U. with a degree in Biology.  He has been teaching SCUBA diving since 1979 and is a certified instructor with PADI, NAUI, SSI and CMAS certifications.  He spent six years teaching diving worldwide, including Mexico, Tahiti, the Red Sea and extensively throughout the Caribbean. With Tim, your snorkel and dive experiences will always be safe, relaxed, and unforgettable.

Capt. Tim has had his 100-ton U.S. Coast Guard license since 1986, when he departed the mainland and headed toward the Virgin Islands.  After exploring these magnificent islands, he set up home base in St. Thomas aboard McGregor I and began showing family, friends, and guests the hidden treasures of the Caribbean.  An avid sailor as well, Tim has made two Trans-Atlantic crossings on 100' sailboats.  His other interests include horses, hiking, snow skiing, and running a small adventure camp for children.

Chef Julie Brown has been exploring the many coves of the Caribbean Sea for the past 15 years. Living in Southern California’s wine country, Julie’s culinary education specialized in the elegant balance of nutritional foods and fine wines. Her cuisine features fresh fish, tropical fruits & vegetables and, of course, mouth-watering desserts, such as the Captain’s favorite, wild berry cheesecake.

Before joining McGregor, Julie’s background in catering and her love for the sea lured her to the warm, blue waters of the Virgin Islands.  Her interest in the underwater world began during her years at Mary Baldwin College and the Duke University Marine Laboratory.  During her final year at the Marine Lab, she passed her days studying and training octopuses. An avid snorkeler and certified SCUBA diver, Julie is always on the lookout for her old eight legged friends.

Julie completed her culinary training at

Cook Street School of Culinary Arts!

Together, Tim and Julie make a fantastic team! They have been working on McGregor II for the last 14 years. Their extensive knowledge and love of the Virgin Islands ensures that you will have the best vacation of your life. While developing their charter yacht business, they have maintained and upgraded the McGregor so that it is now one of the finest vessels in the Caribbean charter fleet. Their success in the charter world is reflected by their repeat clientele! Over 80% of their guests have been back to charter McGregor at least 3 times!!

MCGREGOR II Testimonials

Andrew and Ann  2013

In confirmation of our telephone call, we would like to confirm that we had a great time, and our only complaint was that we didn't book more days.

The boat is great, and is much more spacious than bigger sailing yachts. Having an outside dining room made meal times special, and the food was wonderful. Julie made everything herself, even the bread, and never 'bought in' anything, even the pastry was prepared fresh.

Tim had a badly sprained knee and was not as mobile as he would normally be. However, he and Julie compensated by sharing all duties, and neither one of them let this interfere with giving us a good time.

They are a very happy couple, and very into each other. Both were happy and smiling from the time they got up to the time we went to bed, remarkable when you take into account the pain Tim was in.

As you know, my 18 year old son came with us. We thought he would be bored as we tend not to go ashore. He had the time of his life, swimming and snorkling, and Timm taught him to water ski, up to getting onto one ski, and to scuba dive to a depth of 60 feet. His best vacation ever - his words, not ours.

Ann and I were slightly less energetic, but spent a lot of time snorkling and kayaking, and because Tim and Julie own the boat, everything works and is in first class condition. As someone who has owned three boats, from 28' to 43', I hate going on a boat which is not in good order. I have hired boats with berths, with or without crew, on the Broads, Loch Ness, the Shannon, Corfu, Florida and BVI, and can honestly say that McGregor is far the best, and after four tours of the BVI, both the boat and the crew were far better, even though we do not have any complaints about the rest.

Whether a booking is for two or four adults, or a family with children of any age, this one is the best, and we will be going again next year. We are also interested in a hire in the Med., and would appreciate any information on this, as I have convinced Ann that boating holidays, with a crew, is the best way to go.

Praise also has to go to you. Both of you are well in tune with your Client's needs, and work hard to ensure we have a good time. Thank you.

Andrew and Ann

 Orman charter 2013

After an entire week on board, I’m still trying to figure out where the boat elves are stowed! We don’t know how you manage to facilitate, arrange, and take care of everything while getting in the way of nothing! We’ve had the most fun and relaxing trip of our lives, all due to you two. There are many fabulous boats, maybe even one or two as cool as McGregor II, but no way is there a crew like Captain Tim and Julie! Absolutely unbelievable food, Julie and Tim, we can’t thank you enough for all your expertise on toys, diving, beaches and general fun! Can’t wait to come back.

Julie and Tim – Thank you so much for an absolutely incredible holiday. We both agree that it has been the best vacation we’ve ever had. We leave the McGregor knowing that of all the choices we could have made to celebrate our 25thanniversary, we made the best choice possible. The both of you were charming and gracious in every way. Everything Nautical and Nice – the both of you.

 Holder charter  2011

It didn't take long for the relaxation of our spring break trip to wear off. We jumped right back on the busy Atlanta tread mill and I've not had a chance to respond to you about the McGregor. Sorry about that.

It was one of the best family vacations we have ever had. I've never been so relaxed. Captain Tim & Julie immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. Julie created wonderful meals. It was so nice not having to make decisions about the simplest things like meals for a week. Tim was great with the girls and had the eagerness of a camp director. He was good about explaining the options of the day and letting us pick things and places we would like to do and see. He took us to the best beaches, snorkeling spots and hikes. The McGregor is a great boat and just the right size for us. It was a pleasure to see and hear how much Tim loves his boat and career. We had a fantastic family experience and would highly recommend Tim & Julie & the McGregor to others looking for a special vacation.

Hope you had a good break with your family and I'm sure Ill talk to you soon.
