Nathan Shedden

Captain

Captain Nathan (42) and Chef Penny (36) look forward to welcoming you onboard!

Nathan grew up in Queensland, Australia – where he lived near beach and has been on or around water most of his life. He’s interested in anything that near the water, whether it be scuba diving, fishing, surfing or sailing, he loves it all! Nathan has worked various roles in the hospitality and marine industry and his extensive professional background has granted him great skills that are perfect for the chartering industry!

Jos Smart (24) is from the beautiful Lake District in England. He spent most of his younger years on the water windsurfing, sailing and kayaking. Whilst studying Architecture & Environmental Design at University, he raced competitively at both windsurfing and sailing.

Jos worked five summers at the infamous high wind resort of Vassiliki, Greece, teaching water sports at an advanced level to people of all ages and nationalities. A trained swimming instructor and lifeguard, he loves sharing his passion for sailing and the water with Akasha’s guests.

Julia Taylor (27) from Surrey, England, has worked within hospitality for over ten years between restaurants, hotel barges and ski chalets. She also holds a diploma in holistic massage.

Julia’s experience and training within the hospitality industry have allowed her to travel through Europe and to the Caribbean, following her passions for windsurfing & sailing. A qualified schoolteacher, Julia has a kind and gentle nature and is wonderful with children.

Prior to joining the Akasha team Jos and Julia worked together in France running ski chalets and five star hotel barges. They look forward to welcoming AKASHA’s guests and showing them a wonderful time.

Penny grew up on the little island state of Tasmania. Previously a Registered Nurse, her compassion and love for others is one of many of her great qualities! Penny enjoys cooking, scuba diving, fishing and travelling. Her attention to detail is phenomenal as well as her immaculately prepared meal!

This lovely couple met while working at remote Lizard Island Resort in North Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef. Nathan as a dive instructor and skipper of a sport fishing vessel and Penny as the coordinator of the Marine and Dive Department, the two hit it off. In their free time, they used their own power boat go out on the reef and do some diving, fishing and explore remote outer Barrier Reef Islands.

Nathan & Penny have a wealth of charter experience throughout the Caribbean and are looking forward to providing guests with an exceptional charter experience aboard Akasha.
