NIKATA Crew Profile

Crew Profile
Tom
Tom got his sea legs earlier than anyone around. This came about when, at the age of 6, his parents who were based in Asia moved the family from a nice stable house to a 38ft sailing yacht, which became his home until he was 16. During this period, despite his home life being sailing, he also sailed dinghies, keel boats, and yachts, racing & cruising and doing pretty much anything else you can do with a boat. To test if his legs still worked on “terra firma”, he studied A levels in the UK but quickly decided he was much more suited to an offshore life, so at age 18 took up a career at sea. He has since sailed all over the globe, working aboard yachts ranging from 40 – 140ft. Tom, a qualified captain in his own right, joined Nikata alongside his girlfriend Fabienne in April 2010, and has enjoyed boat racing and cruising from the Med to the Arctic Circle, and now in the Caribbean. Tom is to the crew a truly rounded yachtsman with diversity and personality to spare.
Stewardess Fabienne
Fabienne comes from a nation which until its recent Americas cup accolades has no links to the world she now finds herself living in, Switzerland, where a life at altitude was more natural than one at sea level. She began her adult working life as a landlubber working as a stylist in Zurich. Switzerland was never going to be big enough for a personality like Fabienne, so she went travelling where she met Tom. Despite language barriers and cultural differences, they triumphed over adversity and their relationship flourished, so she decided that a life on the ocean was for her. She has worked for the past 4 years in the yachting industry as a stewardess, and in that relatively short amount of time has already accrued nearly 50,000 sea miles. She joined “Nikata” alongside Tom in April 2010 and is enjoying and succeeding in her new life. Fabienne has had training in wine, service, and cocktails, and is one of the most pleasant, bubbly, determined and hard working girls in the industry, with a strive for perfection that could only come from a Swiss German
