Captain Doug STEIN

American  -  IYT  Master of Yachts 200 ton Offshore,

USCG  200 ton Masters with sail and tow endorsements,

STCW ’95, Open Water PADI, Master’s Degree in Business Association.

Since childhood, I have spent many years in sailing buoy and offshore races for club and national circuits.  In 2000 I began my full time career as a Captain, after 15 years of working in Inventory Management and Purchasing.  I spent Summer Seasons in New England as Captain of a 65’ Motor Yacht and Winter Seasons operating sunset catamaran cruises in Key West, Florida.

Most recently, I am enjoying Ocean’s Seven.  Over the past 18 months, we have chartered the Eolian Islands, the Montenegro and Croatian shoreline, the BVI, the Turks & Caicos, and the Bahamian Islands. For 5 years prior to joining Ocean’s Seven, I worked as Captain/Host on a 62 ft. luxury charter catamaran in the British Virgin Islands. I have Captained many types of sailing and power yachts including a 114’ expedition power yacht in the private sector.

I have many miles of blue water sea time in crossing the Atlantic and in deliveries from Caribbean via Bermuda to New England.  Also, I have enjoyed instructing several owners about their sailing yachts on a variety of trips offshore in Lake Michigan and the Eastern and Southern coasts of the United States.

My role as Captain aboard Ocean’s Seven involves maintaining, managing and repairing the yacht so she is fully fit for your charter. During the charter, I am responsible for the safety of the boat and guests at all times.  I ensure that anyone travelling on board is thoroughly briefed about safety and functional aspects of the vessel.

Peggy and I met racing in the GYA circuit in 1993 in New Orleans. In 2000,
we started a lifetime of working together as a team. We will tailor each trip to meet your wishes to ensure that you have a perfect cruise on the beautiful sailing yacht Ocean’s Seven.

In 1993, I discovered sailing and racing a variety of boats in Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi/Florida Gulf Coast.  Prior to becoming a charter chef, I worked as an Emergency Room trauma nurse for 15 years.  In 2002, Doug and I began our chartering career in the BVI.  I have sailed many ocean miles in deliveries and in chartering in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

I have always loved to cook. I never dreamed I could work in a business of blending my talents of nurturing and my love in sailing!  Flavor and using the freshest ingredients available is the recipe to the foods I serve. I will do everything possible in meeting dietary needs and wishes for you, your friends and family. I hope you will delight in the presentation of my meals and that they will please your taste buds.

Not only as your Chef and Hostess for your voyage, I am responsible for reporting maintenance issues below deck to Captain Doug and assisting him as we sail. It is very important to me that you feel welcome on board as if Ocean’s Seven were your home.

When not creating in the galley, I enjoy swimming, running, yoga and needlework.

We enjoy working together as a team and have been sailing together for 15 years.
Peggy and I are looking forward to welcoming on board!  We will do our very best to provide you with the best cruise possible, lovely sailing, beautiful anchorages and delicious meals.  A holiday you will never forget!
