DON EDWARDS
CAPTAIN
Don is a native of Southern California. He grew up with a unique appreciation for the ocean and everything in it. He pursued a life at sea from the early age of 15, having surfed, snorkeled, and traveled his entire life, when he did his first SCUBA dive. With Jacques Cousteau as a boyhood hero, he commenced on a path that ultimately led to the command of several large super yachts. After graduating from the University of California with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, Don turned his attention to diving. After teaching recreational and scientific diving at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Don obtained his first captain’s license at the age of 26. There was no turning back when he began employment as captain for a luxury liveaboard SCUBA charter company which took him to Honduras, Belize, Turks & Caicos, Palau, and Papua New Guinea. After meeting his wife in the Turks & Caicos, they left the dive industry in 1997 and began their career in yachting. Don is now in his 16th year as a yacht captain and has commanded yachts 35 to 70 meters. He has extensive charter experience from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest to Central America, the Caribbean, New England, and the Mediterranean. He and his wife have two children, ages six and eight, and enjoy camping, bicycling, and watersports together.
ARRON MULLEN
CHIEF MATE
raron, is from South Africa where he began his sailing career at the age of seven racing an Optimist. He has the sea in his blood and while in school he spent his summers expanding his knowledge of sailboats by working for Doyle Sails. He has raced and crewed on such boats as Farr 40, J22, Open 60 Trimarans and Swan 100. Arron is determined to make yachting his career and eventually take command of his own vessel. He will happily do everything he can to make sure your trip on board Odessa is an unforgettable experience.
GRAEME MIDGLEY
CHIEF ENGINEER
Graeme lived and grew up in various parts of the world with his family, before finally moving back to South Africa to finish high school. He started sailing at a young age and began working on his first sailing yacht at 18 and never looked back. He spent some time studying mechanical engineering in Durban and then moved back into yachting on a professional level. He now has 8 years of experience in super yacht industry and is working hard towards the highest ranks of marine engineering, marine surveying and consultancy.
Graeme enjoys every aspect of his chosen career. His interests are not limited to engineering but all areas of the yacht and generally just having a good time. He enjoys helping with all outdoor and water sports activities, keeping the exterior looking good and contributing to the overall smooth running of the yacht.
DANIELA SANCHEZ
CHEF
Daniela was born and raised in Colombia. She always had a passion and curiosity about food and travel. She went to Europe in 2005 and completed a culinary degree in France at the “Restaurant and Hospitality College” in Toulouse leading to continuous employments in world-class hotels and restaurants on the Mediterranean coast. She is proficient in a wide variety of cuisines including Mediterranean, French, Asian, Latin and healthy cuisine. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and the opportunity to soak up the different ports delights and delicacies. She looks forward to meeting you and making your meals onboard very enjoyable!
TANYA STEC
CHIEF STEWARDESS
Tanya grew up on Vancouver Island, Canada. Surrounded by the sea, fishing, boating and water sports were always at the forefront of every weekend and family getaway. She has worked in the hospitality and tourism industry for many years in different parts of the world, such as Central America, Australia and the famed ski resort of Whistler/Blackcomb in Canada. She developed a strong desire to travel at a young age and was thrilled to find the adventurous profession of yachting as a way to see more of the world. She is currently in her tenth year in the industry and in her spare time enjoys mountain biking, hiking and spending time with family and friends. She is cheerful, has a positive attitude and is always available to answer any questions or requests that you may have while onboard! She will bend over backwards to ensure that your stay on Odessa is as relaxing and entertaining as possible.
MIKE PELON
BOSUN
Mike grew up in the state of Michigan Mike fell in love with water at a young age on the waters of the Great Lakes. While the boating season is short in that part of the world he made the most of it by going out on the family ski boat almost everyday in the summer months. He started in the yachting industry four years ago on Odessa and has enjoyed cruising Bahamian, Caribbean, and Mediterranean waters. Mike enjoys many different water sports and loves to help those who wish to learn. Mike is looking to make the yachting industry a lifetime career and is currently working towards his Chief Mates license. He currently holds his Yachtmasters 200 Ton captains license. Mike is looking forward to welcoming you aboard motor yacht Odessa.
LAURA PEARCE
SECOND STEWARDESS
Laura was born and raised in KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She grew up on the wild coast of Transkei spending as much as possible of her time outdoors in or on the water developing a natural love for the ocean. Straight after school she spent time travelling Europe and began working in the hospitality industry. She worked in communications and fitness before studying a Bachelors degree in Education. With her degree behind her, a combined passion for the sea and desire to travel, Laura readily began a career in yachting and has naturally found herself gravitate towards the industry, partly thanks to her large family of seven all of whom work on boats. She loves all water sports, scuba diving, art, and travel. She is enthusiastic, friendly, and always enjoys welcoming guests onboard Odessa.
LILLY HARRISON
STEWARDESS
Lilly grew up on the beautiful Gold Coast in Australia working full time in the hospitality industry whilst studying communications, business and design. Working in hotels, restaurants and bars in one of Australia top tourism destinations has equipped Lilly with the customer service skills necessary to prepare her for the duties and challenges as a stewardess on a high caliber yacht. Also working as an executive assistant for high profile individuals, Lilly prides herself on her organization, confidentiality and attention to detail. In her spare time Lilly loves to travel, read and meet new people. She is always available to guests for questions and requests.
BYRON FINNERTY
DECKHAND
Byron is an Australian with a passion for the outdoors and the water. His favorite past times off the boat are cooking, surfing, fishing, fitness, scuba and travelling. Byron has spent time working in the nutrition and exercise fields before pursuing his dream career in yachting. Byron is continually completing courses and training in different areas of yachting and yacht safety to ensure the best possible experience for our guests. Byron has worked in service for a number of years and aims to ensure the guest needs are catered for and they are enjoying themselves in whatever way they please. Whether it be relaxing, entertaining guests or water sports, he believes Odessa and the rest of the crew provide a platform for an unforgettable experience.
