OTEKA Crew Profile

Captain Pat Beaufront
PAT BEAUFRONT is a fully licensed BVI and TCI Boat Master and an upbeat character, patient and easy going where guests may find great conversations in the sharing of his passion for the ocean and her navigation.
Born and raised in Paris, France, as a real “Titi de Paris”, Pat’s background is in TV and movie industry. He has been producing films in Hollywood (Boiling Point, Stargate). He has been setting and launching TV channels all over Europe and North Africa. After 25 years in this media circle (circus?), Pat decided to take a radical turn in his career and set sail with his family on Oteka across the Med and the Atlantic, then touched base in Turks and Caicos and turn his passion for sailing into a new career.
Active, sporty and boundary-less explorer, finalist motorist in the first Paris-Dakar Rallye, he will amuse you with scintillating anecdotes and poses the ability to create a relaxing atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
Finalist Regatta skipper (French Championship of J80 with the ZBH sailing team), he has been navigating for more than 30 years, sailing in waters ranging from the Loch-Ness to the Red Sea, but the Atlantic is his calling. Passionate, he has conquered two mono-hull projects alongside the French designer Olivier Racoupeau.
Having been an executive manager for decades, he particularly excelled in teaching and entertaining corporate clients as he is a strong team builder. He is great fun with kids and teens and his open personality allows an affinity with people of all ages.
Patrick speaks French, English, and at times something resembling Italian.
Chef - Hostess - First Mate : Beatriz Varini
Born and raised in Brazil, where food spans a unique mix of cultures and cuisines, BEATRIZ VARINI has a fun loving personality and is gifted in attending to people’s needs.
The further she can remember, she has always loved to eat and cook.
Her Italo/Brazilian culture has served to broaden Bea’s culinary horizons and gourmet passion.
Graduated from the University in Porto Alegre, with a degree in Sociology, she spent a few years working in banks but, soon after, her inclination for travel led her to work as a travel agent.
A few years later, she decided to turn her passion for cuisine into a living, and moved to Italy, where she learned the delights of a world-renowned cuisine based on the Mediterranean diet: simple ingredients, long tradition, e l’amore!
She took courses in Italian cuisine, worked in many restaurants and the gourmet conserve food industry in Mantova.
Always on the lookout for something new and interesting, she has been introduced to the charter industry and worked as a Chef/Hostess on SY STELLA (60 ft Power Yacht) in Italy and Sardegna. It was a revelation, and she soon decided to make a permanent move from the kitchen to the galley.
She was Chef/Hostess on S/Y KINDNESS TO THE WORLD (100 ft Mega-Yacht) in the Bahamas.
Invited by her sister Carla, Chef on the successful charter catamaran SOUL CALLINGS, to replace her from time to time, she was caught by the crystal clear waters and the stunning scenery of the BVI.
She stepped onboard Oteka where she teams with Captain Pat in a perfect combination of interests and talents allowing a joyful and friendly ambiance onboard.
The galley is an art & science lab where she spends her free time searching for new flavors, new tastes, new presentations. She loves it!
She speaks italian, portuguese and spanish.
Bea’s creative talents and attention for detail, along with her professionalism and gentle personality ensure that you can look forward to a cheerful and mouth-watering experience aboard Oteka.
Buon apetito!
OTEKA Testimonials
Guests aboard OTEKA in January, 2012
Anton and I have now settled back to reality after our wonderful week at sea in the BVI. We had a great time and got to see and do all the things that we had wanted to see.
Captain Pat is an excellent captain and host – very friendly and accommodating. Just before we set sail we were able to compile a list of the places that we were interested in visiting with the hope that the weather conditions would facilitate us. In the end, even with strong winds from the east on our last two days, Captain Pat was able to adjust our schedule so that we were always safe but got to visit the Baths and Sandy Cay (the last two places on our list)! In Anegada, we rented a car and Captain Pat showed us around to a few nice snorkelling beaches and even a special spot which was stunningly beautiful, the local grocery, a bakery and even an iguana farm. We were very happy that he is as knowledgeable and familiar on land as well as on the sea. Anton was able to get some hands on experience sailing which he enjoyed and we did get to do quite a bit of snorkelling.
Oteka is in great condition. Captain Pat is meticulous in taking great care of her. Everything looks new and she had all of the facilities and amenities that we needed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip! Everything came together wonderfully. Thanks for your assistance in making it happen and even for checking up with me during the trip to ensure all was well. Your advice throughout our booking and planning stage was invaluable especially since you are very familiar with the area. Thanks again!!!
We will be posting some comments on a couple websites and can forward you a link. We have been so busy since coming home and we do want to spend the time to do the reviews to share Oteka with others...so hopefully we would not take too long to do them!
Enclosing a picture of Oteka that we took from the Baths.
Regards
Anton and Lorraine

We had a perfectly wonderful experience. It couldn't have been better. We think highly of Captain Pat Beaufront, a kind and accommodating man, who helped make each day fun and satisfying. He is knowledgeable about the BVI and as he solicited our input regarding destinations and activities, he offered good advice about each day's itinerary. He described the workings of the instruments and imparted some sailing techniques to our grown sons which added to the adventure for them. It was a wonderful experience for the five of us who found the trip exhilarating and great fun. Kudos to Captain Pat. We would highly recommend this trip with Captain Pat on the Oteka.
- Thank you Captain Pat for a trip of a lifetime! The moment we stepped aboard Oteka, you made us feel welcome and comfortable. Your knowledge of where to moor was perfect!
From the serene Guana Island, the delicious grilled lobster dinner on Anegada, to the rambunctious Willy T’s on Norman... we enjoyed every day. You are a patient instructor for us novice sailors. And your excitement for sailing is infectious! We also appreciate your indulgence in letting Oteka been commandeered by the “pirates of Oregon”.
Your sense of humor made our trip more memorable and your professionalism was superb! “

- Words cannot express how thankful we are for the time we spent with you. With no expectations of our time on Oteka, we are beyond thrilled with our experience. Your knowledge, expertise, stories and humour have made our vacation one we will never forget. You showed us places in this world that we didn’t know existed and they were absolutely beautiful. It’s hard for us to fathom that God has created such an amazingly gorgeous world, and we are truly blessed to have had you as our tour guide (...) It’s not everyday that you begin a trip with 6 friends and leave with 7. We thank you so much!"

- The entire family had a wonderful vacation on the Oteka. The catamaran is beautiful and extremely comfortable, the weather was awesome every day, but what really made our vacation extra special was Captain Pat. Not only does he have the coolest stories, he is a gracious host, very considerate, and just a pleasure to be around all the time. He's also such an expert that we always felt extremely safe while sailing.

- Thank you so very much for your spectacular sailing services. Our week on the Oteka exceeded all expectations. Your nautical skills were valuable to a couple of “wanna be sailors” (…) You are a true renaissance man with a fascinating and interesting history. We enjoyed the stimulating and enlightening conversations about the world and life almost as much as the sailing. “
