PENNY MAE Crew Profile
CAPTAIN – Richard McGregor
New Zealand
Richard – or ‘Dick’ as he is commonly known, is a proud kiwi who grew up near the ocean in his beloved New Zealand. Sailing, fishing, hunting and diving are all favorite pastimes and it was diving that he took to a professional level, becoming a Dive Instructor and teaching on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for four years. It was here that he first ‘got wind’ of the yachting industry and the thought of being paid to do what he likes most, smoldered in his mind. Two years later the fire was fully lit and he was introduced to the industry when he crossed the Pacific on his first super yacht. Over the years he progressed up through the ranks with the intention of becoming Captain and it is here that you find him today enjoying the success of achieving his goal.
ENGINEER – Mike Hahn
Germany
Mike found his way into the engineering side of yachting at the early age of 22. Since then he has served on motor and sailing yachts between 30 and 70 meters. The chance of combining travel and work in one profession has made him a grateful person willing to take on any challenge yachting has to offer. Mike’s goal is to work with German mega yachts, building on new projects.
FIRST OFFICER – Matt Kingma
South Africa
Matt has been travelling for the past eight years and has been in yachting for the last three. He has spent much of his life in water, from water skiing to water polo, competitive and social. He enjoys seeing new places and working on the high seas. He hopes to one day captain his own vessel.
CHEF – Matthew Burns
Canada
Matthew trained in Ottawa, Canada and worked in restaurants for 10 years. This is where he decided that cooking was going to be his career. Although Matt is new to yachting, he doesn’t have any plans to stop any time soon. His mouth watering menu’s have a lot to do with his dedication to his work. Having grandparents from Italy, Matt was taught at a young age that food is a very big part of the family. On that note, his specialty is fresh Mediterranean cuisine and after recently working in the British Virgin Islands and South America, this has added influence in his variety. Although cooking is his passion, Matt also enjoys an active outdoor life of cycling, swimming and running.
CHIEF STEWARDESS – Tracy Ryan
New Zealand
Tracy left New Zealand 15 years ago with a quest to travel the world. Whilst on her travels, she worked in hospitality and hotel management in Canada, Japan, Australia and finally England where she joined a yacht and has never looked back. Thirteen years later, still in yachting, she has extensively cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South Pacific, Alaska and Australia. Tracy enjoys working with and for people and combined with her love of travelling at sea, looks forward to new adventures.
2nd STEWARDESS – Silvia Giordani
Brazil
Silvia was born in the south of Brazil but her Italian background led her back to Europe about 20 years ago. She has been travelling and working in hospitality in many countries, notably Italy and Germany – her favorite places. Since 2004, she found herself in the US and pursued a career in real estate. Silvia has been in yachting since the beginning of 2010 and is loving her life on the sea. Being a spiritual person, she loves nature, music and sunsets and could not be happier if combining any of these with her guitar and friends. She is looking forward to making your stay onboard an enjoyable experience.
3rd STEWARDESS – Sune Cornelius
South Africa
Sune had started travelling the world at a very early age. Growing up in her parents ‘B&B’, she was introduced to the world of travelers as a child, which will inspire her for the rest of her life. After 10 years of travel, she finally found yachting as a great way to live the lifestyle she wants. In her time off, Sune enjoys all sorts of sports as well as creative cooking.
DECKHAND – Jacques Le Roux
South Africa
Jacques grew up on a farm in the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Shortly after finishing school in 2009, he heard through a friend about the industry and to embark on this new adventure. He is an enthusiastic person who loves travelling and working with people, so therefore knew that yachting was for him. He also enjoys fishing, hunting and water sports in his spare time. Jacques has been onboard Penny Mae for nearly 2 years now and looks forward to seeing more new places.
