PENTESILEA II Crew Profile

Originally from the small lake  town of Hartebeesport,  South Africa;  Hannes (Han-es)  grew up sailing Hobie Cats, fishing and waterskiing. Later, after several  years in Mozambique with his family, his love of the water broadened to a love of the ocean, nature and wildlife.   

Hannes knew he wanted to see more of the world.  Once he finished school he left Africa and went on to explore Asia, South America, Europe, and various other parts of the world including the Caribbean and Mediteranean Seas.  It was during this time that Hannes fell in love with scuba diving, gaining vast underwater experience in some of the worlds most exotic dive locations.

Upon his return to South Africa Hannes started a successful stone and transport company.  However, after 7 years in the business his  love of the water and the call of the ocean proved too strong to resist any longer. Hannes left the business and in no time found himself sailing in the South Atlantic Yacht Race, Cape to Rio race and many other long distance races that took him all over the world.  He has spent time delivering yachts across oceans and working on charter yachts.  Hannes is a RYA Yacht Master Ocean Certified Captain and a Certified PADI Dive Instructor.  

Amy grew up in the heart of England and has always had a passion for traveling. After attaining a degree in Travel and Tourism she spent several years in the Canary Islands looking after groups of guests as a Holiday Representative. Later her wanderlust took her to Antibes, France where she started her career in the yachting world.  Since then she has worked on many high profile super yachts as stewardess/deckhand and as chef on smaller yachts. Amy has a big passion for cooking and baking. She loves trying new recipes and enjoys cooking internationally inspired cuisine. 

Her work and thirst for travel has given her the chance to spend time on her passions and hobbies.  While in South Africa she completed her PADI Rescue Diver qualifications and also spent time sailing around The Cape attaining her RYA Day Skipper license, Power Boat level 2 and VHF  licenses.

Hannes and Amy have a wealth of experience to share and they  will make you feel right at home aboard Pentesilea II.  They are professional and know how to have a good time!

Additional notes:

Hannes was not only a great captain but he was a great dive instructor with a lot of personality and fun. Amy his partner had a personal emergency and was not available for our charter. They did a very good job informing us ahead of time and pulling in Ashley that impressed us with every meal.

Our group just loved sailing with Hannes and Amy. We were taken well care of and they have a sense of adventure and enthusiasm that we all shared. The Pentesilea 2 is a wonderful yacht that exceeded our expectations, and Hannes and Amy us feel like family. 1.  Was the crew friendly and accommodating?

Hannes and Amy were very friendly and accomodating.  The yacht was well looked after and we felt very spoiled the whole of the trip. Hannes is an excellent Captain and we loved every moment of the trip.



2.  Was the yacht comfortable and clean?

Yes very.  The additional touches also did not go unnoticed.  



3.  Was the yacht well ventilated?

Yes.



4.  Was the food good and well presented?

Amy's cooking was superb and she managed all the dietary requirements very well.  We enjoyed every morsel and even took some of her recipe's with us to try at home.  



5.  Did you like the area you sailed?

The BVIs were amazing.   Some personal highlights were Virgin Gorda and the Baths, Cow Wreck beach on Anagada and diving the Rhode.  We loved the yacht club in the North Sound and the hike behind Bitter End.  



6.  Could we have helped you further in any way?

While Hannes and Amy are new to the BVIs, they were very knowledgable about the area and full of enthusiasm.  They made us feel very welcome and looked after throughout the trip and managed the boat and the guests extremely well.  We had a wonderful time over New Years and would come back in a flash. The facilities aboard the Pentesilea II are very comfortable and I am sure that as their experience of the area grows it will only make the charter even better.  Thank you for putting us in touch with this yacht and crew.  It was amazing.  We cannot wait to return.

Every single meal was absolutely perfect.  Rose has the touch of a gourmet chef and everything was from scratch.



5.  Did you like the area you sailed?

Yes, we saw most of the BVI and stayed at a different moorage site every night.  The Captain made sure we saw the must-sees.



6.  Could we have helped you further in any way?

Last minute contact was lacking.

I highly recommend sailing with Rose and Travis.  They did everything they could to make sure we were comfortable, and adapted the itinerary to what we wanted to see.  Rose worked her magic on our beverages and put together meals fit for royalty.  All of us on board agree we will return!

We want to thank you both again for all that you did to make our charter vacation fantastic.  Before going, we were told it would be the best vacation we would ever take and looking back we would have to say it really was the best.  Your willingness to accommodate all of our preferences and desires was great. You made us all feel comfort, relaxed and at home right away.





Captain B we really appreciate all that you did.  You have a fantastic boat that was perfect for the whole family.  Anytime we asked about doing something you always had the right equipment and was willing to lead the group, whether it was diving, night diving, or even tubing.  We really appreciate your willingness to not only be the captain of the boat but also our dive master and tour guide.  You always were searching for interesting things on every dive so that we could see as much as possible, that was a lot of work and we really appreciated it.





You both were so kind and friendly with all of us and seemed to genuinely care that everyone was having a good time.  Your wonderful hospitality allowed us all to really feel comfort and relaxed. 





Heather you were always so accommodating to all of us.  You quickly picked up on our personal preferences and seemed to always anticipate our next need.  Thank you for all that you did to make us all feel at home.





It was wonderful getting to know both of you better.  You are really nice people.

The boat was in excellent condition.  Everything worked – all equipment was as advertised.

Travis and Rose keep an immaculate ship. Everything was clean and spotless, plus Rose cleaned our state rooms every day.

Travis and Rose were wonderful! Great people – lots of fun – very accommodating. They were a pleasure to be around and all of us felt like we were old friends by the time the cruise was over.
