Captain Maxx started commercial fishing when he was 14 years old in Australia and continued for 12 years in this industry. He worked the 1987 America’s Cup in Fremantle when he was offered the Chief Officers position on a Japanese yacht for the BBC Challenge after the cup in 1987. Maxx has been in the charter industry for 23 years now and some of his commands include Aussie Rules and Solemar, both extremely busy private/charter yachts. He joined the yacht Polar Star as captain in June 2010 and is striving to keep her as an accomplished charter yacht in her own right. He has over 370,000 nautical miles under his belt, including 2¾ world voyages. He has worked in Southeast Asia, South Pacific, Alaska, Mediterranean, Saudi Arabia, Caribbean and Australia.

Chief Officer: André Rutishauser

André grew up along the shores of the South African coastline. After graduating with a degree in Marketing and Advertising in 1994, he set sail from South Africa to the Caribbean. André has worked on various boats over the years and has cruised extensively throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on luxury vessels. His love for the sea and the outdoors inspired him to obtain his Masters 3000GT Captain’s license in 2007. Along with his warm and inviting personality it is his natural ability for the job that makes André such a valuable member of the Polar Star team.

Senior Chief Engineer: Travis Ludbrook

Travis comes to Polar Star with a vast wealth of knowledge gathered over the past sixteen years in his technical engineering career. Six of these years Travis has been operating as Chief Engineer on board luxury motor yachts. It is his expertise in over twenty critical systems involved with the core of a mega yacht that makes Travis’s role on Polar Star such an important one. You can be sure to have safe and smooth sailing when Travis is on board! A good time for Travis would include surfing one of the many beautiful coastal breaks at home in Western Australia.

Second Engineer: Johannes Swanepoel

Johannes began his seafaring career as a mechanical engineer in the South African Navy. The seven years spent working allowed Johannes to travel across the world through Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. Change of career has taken Johannes into the luxury motor yacht industry where his mechanical experience on naval vessels has transferred smoothly. Interests include playing the guitar, rugby, diving and of course travel.

Executive Chef: Jason McDonald

Jason is a highly experienced and acclaimed chef with over 25 years experience. His extensive career ranges from restaurant owner in New Orleans to the Executive Chef of the Mayfair Hotel in the groovy area of Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida. Amongst the myriad of outstanding achievement during his career Jason has also been able to fulfil a lifelong dream of opening an exciting new restaurant in his home town of Cottlesloe, Western Australia. Being such a naturally adventurous spirit, Jason then embarked on what would become a 10 year odyssey working on luxury motor yachts. A perfect fit for Polar Star Jason looks to provide a world class culinary experience for all of his guests.

Chief Stewardess: Taryn Darier

Qualities that are paramount for running a smooth and professional interior team. Taryn comes to Polar Star with already a strong three years as Chief Stewardess on board one of the top charter yachts in the industry. Kicki’s career in yachting began as a sole stewardess on a 100’ sailing yacht and due to her vibrant and charming personality it is not surprising that Kicki has been a member of a very successful charter vessel to receive two ‘Best Crew’ Awards in 2008. In her spare time, Kicki enjoys listening to music and reading a good book in the sun.

Stewardess: Kate Miller

Kate hails from a beautiful coastal town on the eastern shores of Australia. Surf life saving and any other activity drawing her to the beach was prime interest when growing up.
