ROCKETEER Crew Profile

Glenn Howell, captain of the Rocketeer, grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico and has sailed extensively throughout the Caribbean.  He’s been sailing since age 7, having raced, cruised, voyaged, taught, and coached sailing for many years.  He led a successful business career which included at various times manufacturing, management consulting, real estate development and investment, and internet based retailing.  He now splits his time between entertaining guests onboard Rocketeer, pursuing his remaining business interests, and working toward a simpler life.  Glenn has a USCG 100 ton masters license with sailing endorsement.

Grassa’s warmth and energy are greatly appreciated by guests onboard Rocketeer. She loves to cook, and recently received an award for her main course entry at the Charter Yacht Society culinary competition and another prize for appetizer at the St Thomas yacht show. She was born and educated in Brazil, but has lived in Germany, Switzerland, Africa, and the US. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, German, and French. Grassa owned and operated a successful fitness studio and a beauty clinic in Brazil for many years. She is an accomplished yoga instructor and worked as a massage and beauty therapist at Grans Montana Hotel Spa in Switzerland. She holds master and skipper licenses from the Brazilian Maritime Authority, and has an STCW emergency training certificate.

We believe in eating wholesome tasty “home cooked” food.  Whenever possible we source our ingredients locally.  A variety of menu options are available depending on your preferences including South American, Mediteranean, Caribbean, and Asian dishes.  Chef Grassa was a culinary prize winner at both the 2011 Charter Yacht Show in Tortola and the 2012 show in St Thomas.  It is hard to describe just how good the food is on Rocketeer, and healthy too.  We make almost all of what we serve from scratch, including main dishes and desserts, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  By minimizing the use of cooking oils and using fresh ingredients we keep the calories down and the taste delicious.

ROCKETEER Testimonials

From guests aboard Rocketeer in late February, 2013

Korinne and I wanted to send you some more detailed thoughts on our charter on Rocketeer.  We just went through all the photos when we downloaded them to our computers.  What a great time we had!  I’ll send this to Seth as well, if it will be helpful.  Here you go:

The best thing to say about Rocketeer and Glenn and Grassa is that we definitely want to join them again soon, and this time we’re bringing some friends.

Where else to start?  Glenn and Grassa were both so welcoming of us into their “home,” and made us feel like we belonged there.  They were willing to give us our own space, but we had more fun eating meals and hanging out with Glenn and Grassa throughout the trip.  When we wanted time by ourselves, they gladly faded into the background.  We truly enjoyed dining with Glenn and Grassa, and especially loved Grassa’s cooking.  They asked lots of questions before and during the trip to figure out what we wanted to eat and drink, and Grassa was so creative to prepare things that we devoured.  Both food and drinks!

Rocketeer itself was a great sailing vessel.  It’s faster than the typical charter catamaran, so it’s possible to go further or get to the destination faster and see more on the trip.  There is plenty of room on board, and we had lots of privacy when we needed it.  There is A/C, but we never needed it with the breezes through the cabin.

More importantly, Glenn was very knowledgeable and friendly as captain.  He took us to the right places, guided us when we needed it, but also left much of the itinerary up to us.  Plus, my wife and I had just learned how to sail, so Glenn let us crew when we could be helpful.  We know Grassa could have done a great job captaining Rocketeer as well, as she clearly knew what she was doing too.  We definitely were able to see some great spots around St. Martin and St. Barth that we’d never seen before.

Overall, we had an unforgettable time on Rocketeer with Glenn and Grassa in St. Martin/St. Barth/Anguilla.  We can’t wait to join them again in in the Virgin Islands!
