Crew Profile

Captain: Adam Dreffin (31)

Adam Dreffin holds an MCA Master of Yachts 200 Tons. Adam was born in the Exumas aboard the boat of his parent’s, Peter and Tina Dreffin. At a young age, Adam disappeared into hidden coves with his brother, trolling for fish while handling a sailing dinghy, so he knows the Bahamas islands very well. He shot his first lobster at age 6. His passion for the islands is evident in his very presence.

Adam's parents, along with his younger brother Warren, all set off for a world cruise on their sailing boat once the boys reached teenage years, so Adam is also very widely travelled to many exotic parts of the world. When they reached Australia the boys went to school and college there, whilst their parents continued their cruise back home to the Bahamas.

Summers during school, Adam captained catamarans for Broadreach Sailing School in the French West Indies with high school kids aboard. He's also captained large yachts in New England and delivered vessels from the Mediterranean. He has run charters aboard Rubicon for several years in Exuma.

Adam’s specialty is as an avid sportsman on the water. He kite-surfs, windsurfs and relishes catching game fish while trolling between islands. He is also certified as a Sivananda yoga instructor.

The Dreffin family now has three catamarans in the Exumas, as the parents charter with one boat, Adam has Rubicon, and his younger brother has just added the third catamaran to the this family are true sailors with over 35 years experience at sea!

Chef: Victoria "Tori" Redinger (32)

It is no wonder that Tori’s motto is “Be solar powered”. She was born and raised in “The Sunshine State” of Florida, in the town of Jupiter, at the mouth of the Loxahatchee river. Free time was spent with her twin and younger sisters, splashing in the water or scrambling up the backyard banyan tree. Tori took a hiatus from the water while earning Bachelors degrees in Communications and Fine Arts with concentrations in Journalism and Photography.

But she was soon immersed again. An internship from Perry Institute for Marine Science brought her to a small island in the Exuma Cays. For the next seven seven years she maintained a home there, often hosting graduate students and scientists. She discovered that preparing meals for people with an array of different dietary restrictions in a remote location was a challenge she loved to tackle. Cooking quickly became her passion.

Returning to Jupiter, she joined the team at Little Moir's Food Shack. Their beloved menu of comfort foods using only the freshest ingredients inspired her cooking style. Then she got the call from Captain Adam. She came aboard Rubicon as charter chef, then there was a charter aboard Swish. Next she spent a year and a half as stew/cook on a 106' Westship. But being back in the Exumas is being home. As chef aboard Rubicon, Tori specializes in raw, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. She still loves a challenge. Her other motto: “The tighter the diet restrictions, the more fun and creative it becomes in the galley!”

The main salon seats 10 guests and crew. The cockpit table seats 8 guests and crew.

RUBICON has a new Honda 2000 watt generator that runs the A/C all night at anchor! However, it really only sufficiently cools the two fwd cabins OR the salon, so we can only offer A/C for two cabins. RUBICON also has a 2kw inverter.

If you wish to "go green" and help the environment you are welcome to turn off the A/C and experience the breezes from the tradewinds as with open hatches and electric fans they are usually quite sufficient to keep you cool.

Guests can invest in $30/week for international wifi on their smartphones and iPads. Works great when 4 miles away from a repeater in the Exuma Cays. Each island has a repeater so sailing by or anchored there ensures a good connection.

July 15 – 19, 2016- Bahamas – Amazing & Wonderful!
Bahamas Days at Rubicon: It was amazing and wonderful because we felt the nature experience. We loved swimming and exploring the islands.
Adam was a wonderful captain and Tina...oh, Tina!!!! Super Tina. We loved her. She cooks so well and made us feel comfortable. She was so sweet with us, and funny too. Both made us remember this trip...

This was the best vacation we had all year! Thanks for all!

We had a great time. Adam's great local knowledge is a major advantage in finding snorkeling spots. I'm happy to say that we have never had a bad snorkel on Rubicon. His mate, Val, is lovely and a very good cook. They were very accommodating with our desire for a late dinner hour. Overall a great week in the Exumas. Adam was even able to procure some additional Conch for us so we had several opportunities to enjoy it during the cruise.Mike and Kathy

Best ever Bahama boat trip. Thanks for so many memories (and sand dollars). Jackie
This was such a blast, couldn’t have been a better time. Thanks for making it into one of my top vacations! Fun drinks, fun yoga, fun everything. K
I can’t really put into words how enjoyable this trip has been. Thank you for making it so special (and for all the delicious food – especially the fish! Stan
A perfect trip for us – than you both for putting together an outstanding experience for our family. Bryan

You were a very intuitive host, we all got to do what we all wanted each day of our trip, be it swim, kayak, flyfish, jog and snorkle. Not to mention, eat gluten free and plenty of fish!

We went into the trip a little hesitant to stay on a boat for that long of a time.  I will tell you it was an enjoyable experience.  The sailing, food, conversation were all wonderful.  Adam and Sarah do their best to let you enjoy the views God provides.  One of the best parts was spear fishing in the morning and then having dinner that night.  You talk about fresh fish.  My first statement is blown out of the water (no pun intended) with our trip.

When you said we might be able to swim with dolphins, turtles, sharks and rays, I wasn’t sure you could pull it off. But whoa! Watch out what you ask for! Good thing I have the photos you took with your underwater camera to show jy family and friends back home. They didn’t believe me until I pulled out the one with the big turtle. What a wild day that was! The snorkeling was our favorite part of the trip, next to Sarah’s excellent meals. The reefs were colorful, fish were in good numbers and the anchorages pristine. When they say Bahamians are some of the friendliest people in the world, it’s true! We really liked the bar and food at Staniel and Chat n’ Chill.

We had never been to the Bahamas before, so we were astounded at the abundant sealife and beauty of the Exumas. The remote anchorages were calm and scenic, and nature walks ashore introduced us to the incredible bird life. Our favorite adventure was taking the dinghy ride through the mangrove creeks. I never knew there could be so many turtles up there. The clarity of the water was just amazing. The best part was feeling the enthusiasm and love that Captain Adam had for the Exumas. We loved hearing island stories over Sarah’s fantastic meals in the cockpit at night. Everything was wonderful, clean and more than we expected. Thanks for sharing your world with us!

Capt. Adam & Sarah were engaging & interesting. Adam’s life experience aboard boats was impressive. Everything on the boat worked perfectly. Though we arrived with no particular agenda, we appreciated the suggestions of Capt. Adam. We hadn’t taken much time to research the endless possibilities of destinations in the Exumas and Out Islands. We were lucky to come upon Rubicon. The opportunity really feel the islands seemed personal and passionate to Capt. Adam. His knowledge and kindness was especially appreciated. Sarah’s good sense of humor was grand in all ways too! Overall, such a fantastic week! Thanks for the fun times!

My wife petting a shark. Thought I’d never see the day for that to happen! So, thanks for all the wild and fun adventures aboard Rubicon. Capt. Adam’s knowledge of the Exumas made our charter week very special. His enthusiasm was evident. We liked his flexibility and sweet disposition. Sarah kept us laughing at our hesitation to get out there and really play with sharks, stingrays. We’re pasting the photo in our office cubicle at work. Just to remind us where we want to go next year. Take us to another Out Island! We want to see more of the Bahamas!
Cheers, A.J.
