Crew Profile

Luxury charter yacht crew for SEA OF LOVE
Captain: Joe Cazana

Captain Joe Cazana has been sailing for the past 35 years. He learned to sail in 1975 after not being able to sail back the rental hobie cat and then the next day capsizing the same.rental cat in the channel off Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. He thought lessons might be a good idea.

Soon after the lessons he began bare boat-chartering in the BVI. Much like most bare boaters we see today, he didn’t have all that much experience. However he was a quick learner, he always brought the boat back and never capsized again.

In 1985 he began diving in the BVI recognising the beauty of this whole new world opening up underwater. He travelled all around the Caribbean exploring its beauty.

So year after year of sailing he perfected his ability growing upon a wealth of experience. He began doing deliveries from NY to the BVI and back and does them to this day.

In 1992 inspired by his success he felt it would be nice to share this great sport with others and became certified by the ASA (American Sailing Association). He taught sailing on the Hudson River n NYC and also in Long Island Sound off City Island.

In 1994 he again, impressed with his abilities thought to get his Captain’s license as it would enable him to share his better boating experiences with others by sailing a boat for them as in being a charter boat captain in the BVI.

Well time went by as the wife was not ready to move south. Capt Joe in his on gong spirit to contribute to the sailing community joined in 1999 the NYPD Harbour Auxiliary and patrolled the NYC waterways, watching for boaters in distress. In 2002 Capt Joe moved his services to the Coast Guard Auxiliary as he was more interested in boaters in distress than catching that occasional bad apple in NYC.

Recently Capt Joe, hearing a call for help from Reef Check BVI, brought along his diving experience and answered with the same desire to contribute and protect those very reefs that brought so much pleasure to him and the people he entertained in the BVI.

Chef: Carol

Carol began sailing in 1995 with several sailing clubs in the NYC area. As her passion for sailing grew, she bought her first sailboat a 1982 Dufour 35 ft monohull. along with her husband Capt. Joe Cazana. Together they sailed around the NY area, in the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. In 2006 she bought her 2nd boat, a 44 ft Lagoon catamaran for charter sailing in the BVI. Carol with a flair for cooking has augmented her talents with many courses at the Culinary Institute of NYC.

Joe & Carol were great hosts. We had two couples on the boat and the boat was very nicely designed and plenty of space. Both couples have been in Caribbean a lot - but always wanted to experience a trip to see the BVI. Sea of Love did just that. Carol cooked great meals with generous portions and outstanding variety. I swear - at lest three different nights we said it was the best meal of the trip. They provided a great suggestions on our itinerary and of course provided us the flexibility to make changes on the run - really a great benefit to us we had not been to many of the small BVI Islands Instead of a Captain and mate - Joe and Carol became a part of our trip joining us in telling great stories yet always providing the perfect amount of privacy. Joe got us engaged in Dominos and we loved it - playing with him every day - in fact by the last few days of the trip - it was our actual highlight at the end of the day and also played for an hour or so several mornings. Joe is a great captain - clearly safety comes first. He really understand his profession and makes you feel very safe during sails and while moored at an island. These people love what they do and they made their home (their beautiful boat) our home for one great week. They provide great value and I would strongly recommend them to anyone who is considering this type of trip to the BVI.
Thanks Joe and Carol.

My wife and I have just returned from a most enjoyable voyage on the catamaran Sea of Love with Captain Joe and his extraordinary chef and mate – Carol. While we bask in the aftermath of our time in paradise, we recall how our planning for the trip, which began a year earlier, was perturbed by hurricane Irma when the boat we’d chartered was destroyed. Joe and Carol had blocked their calendar for our planned sailing dates since it abutted a family commitment they had, but when they became aware of our plight they not only accommodated us but did so in such a way that it was as if we’d planned the trip over the many months with them. We worked itinerary, activity and food preferences. They asked insightful questions which demonstrated their experience. We responded to them and, in some cases, if our answers weren’t clear they sought clarification instead of making assumptions. These efforts contributed to all our requirements, expectations, desires, and preferences being flawlessly met.

While planning was essential, it was execution which made the charter as good for us as it was. Nature is recovering from the unimaginable destruction from Irma while man-made structures are lagging but Joe knew the right places to go for us to best appreciate the embodiment of paradise that the U.S. and British Virgin Island have to offer. He also was flawless in piloting us safely and comfortably to each destination while responding appropriately to sea and weather conditions. Carol had to visit multiple stores to provision the boat for our dietary wishes. However, this would not have been the success that it was without her expert preparation and presentation which was all done with a rather modest galley making it all the more impressive. Adding to the execution itself was a service-oriented attitude, accommodating our wishes and sincerely wanting to ensure that the charter was special for us.

Lastly, if one is anticipating a sunken whirlpool tub in the bathroom you’re in the wrong place. However, for this class of boat (and perhaps rivalling some slightly larger) there was adequate privacy and function in a comfortable well-appointed setting. One cannot go wrong with a good boat, great food, dedicated and skilled crew and a location as beautiful as the Virgin Islands. The planning and execution and the spectacular venue provided us with the opportunity for relaxation and recreation we sought. Our time was indeed most special and will provide vivid memories for many years to come.

Joe and Carol are the greatest hosts we had of all the 5 charters I have contracted.Joe knows perfectly how to cruise the waters and Carol is an excellent chef and will pamper you during the whole trip. Joe is also an expert bartender especially with Bushwackers. Wish both of them a long love together and health.

Joe and Carol were wonderful hosts! Everything was exactly as they said and there were no bad surprises - only good surprises! We did a 7 day sailing trip around BVI with them and it was wonderful. Joe captained the boat and his wife Carol cooked us wonderful meals, made us great cocktails and waited on us the entire time! Most relaxing trip I've ever been on! This was my first time on a sailing trip and was a little nervous but everything turned out better than we could have hoped! Thanks Carol and Joe!...

Lana and Daniel Leonard

This was our first time visiting the BVI and first time staying on a boat overnight (and we chose to do so for 6 nights on the Sea of Love)! The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish.  Carol and Joe not only took care of our every need with excellent food and service, but they made the whole experience special by teaching us about the islands, about sailing and their experiences while living and sailing the BVIs.  Couldn't have asked for a better trip…
