SHALIMAR Crew Profile

CAPTAIN: MERVYN TWILLEY

Captain Mervyn Twilley was born and raised in South Africa. He has been with Shalimar since 2004, prior to becoming the Captain on Shalimar he was her Chief Engineer. Mervyn has accumulated many Ocean miles over the years.

He joined the Merchant Marine Industry at the age of 21. He has sailed extensively throughout the treacherous waters of South Africa, was actively involved in the construction of a 133’ sailing yacht built in Cape Town, and has delivered yachts as Captain and crew from South Africa, to the USA and England; where he obtained his Captain’s License.

Our guests recognize and appreciate immediately, Captain Mervyn’s experience on Shalimar, the Caribbean, and his life experiences as a Charter Yacht Captain.

CHEF: GENO ACETTA

Geno was raised in South Philly by a family of restaurateurs where sharing meals with friends, family and clients became second nature to him at a very young age. He worked as a chef in various restaurants in the Colorado area for approximately 17 years, and then, his passion for food and people, Geno discovered the perfect setting aboard a charter sailing yacht-an intimate venue where he could share his culinary talents and creatively adapt each charter menu to suit the preferences of the guests aboard.

While Geno thoroughly enjoys experimenting with and preparing dishes from many ethnic backgrounds, including Italian, French, Spanish, German, Caribbean and Greek, he would best describe his favorite cooking style as "Mediterranean inspired". Depending on his location, Geno also seeks out the freshest seafood, spices and ingredients in order to accent his dishes with a slightly local twist. A friendly and creative individual, Geno was known for his "theme nights" at various restaurants. Example of this might include "Flamenco night", complete with Flamenco guitarist, dancers, tapas & sangria, as well as "Gangster night" with menus from famous gangster movies and of course outfits to match. He looks forward to receiving any ideas for theme nights from future guests in order to enhance their charter experience.

CHIEF STEW: CAROLINA TWILLEY

Carolina has been the Chief Stewardess on Shalimar since 2005, over the years her yachting experiences have become an invaluable asset to all our guests. She loves, traveling and learning new languages currently she speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish fluently. Without fail Carolina has made each and every charter guest’s vacation an absolute amazing life-time experience.

Over this time he has been a Captain navigating throughout remote parts of BVI, USVI and cruising all the Caribbean all year around. His role as a mate/bosun has seen him involved in many ocean crossings and project managing a major 3 months refit with vessel reconstruction.
