STARS Crew Profile
Capt. Matthew Hardy, British From any point of view, Matt is a fully qualified charter skipper. He started sailing at age 9, racing and cruising, and his life has revolved around sailing since that time. Beginning with international dinghy competitions, Matt advanced to high level yacht racing including the 2004 Swan World Cup and 2004 Antigua Mega Yacht Regatta. He has skippered yachts up to 72 feet with two crew and worked as mate/ deckhand on yachts up to 135 feet. Matt developed his communications and organizational skills as a sailing and powerboat instructor teaching primarily non-sailors. Certain that professional yachting is the career he wants to pursue, Matthew earned a dual degree, with honors, in Maritime Business and Maritime Law at Plymouth University. He is an RYA qualified Yachtmaster Offshore, with Commercial Endorsement, RYA Powerboat Instructor and RYA Sailing Instructor. Matt is also a PADI Certified Open Water Diver. His formula for a successful charter - ensure the guests have an enjoyable and safe experience on a well-maintained yacht. Chef/Hostess Ayla Lewis, British Ayla has been cooking on yachts since completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Business, with honors, in 2001. Having been brought up on England’s south coast, she started sailing and competing in dinghy racing at an early age, going on to sailing on her university team. Intent on furthering her career, Ayla hasn’t lost any time in earning professional qualifications. Her certificates include: Advanced Culinary Techniques, The Gables Institute, 4 weeks Specialized Mediterranean Cuisine, Ashburton College, 1 week Basic Food Safety and Hygiene, with Merit RYA Yacht Master Theory RYA Sea Survival PADI Open Water Diver With her bright, bubbly character, dedication and experience in cooking and sailing, Ayla is the perfect person to round out Aurora’s crew
