SWISH Crew Profile

Leon and Wendy Venter

Leon and Wendy Venter are South African and Zimbabwe born. Both are outgoing and have a love for sailing and water sports, deciding to leave their corporate and business world behind in South Africa to pursue their love for the outdoors in the stunning Caribbean.

In South Africa, Leon had his own engineering business for thirty years plus, doing on-site machining in the Sugar, Petroleum, Paper and Marine Industries in South Africa and other African countries. Leon has been sailing recreationally since a young boy and has always had a passion for the sea and diving.

Wendy was involved in the corporate world of Mercedes Benz, having been in the financial side for several years and with the Barlows Group previously. Her love for the outdoors, sailing since a young girl with her family in Zimbabwe and then in South Africa and her love for diving made the decision they made to re-locate to the Caribbean an easy one.

Wendy and Leon have sailed extensively up the east African coastline on their own catamaran and have raced several Vasco Da Gama Yacht Races from Maputo in Mocambique to Durban, South Africa. Leon has his Master Of Yachts Offshore to 200 tons Captains Licence as well as his South African Coastal Skippers Licence. Leon is a PADI Divemaster of several years, both him and Wendy have been in the charter industry in the Caribbean since 2011 from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, to St. Maartens and then the British Virgin Islands.

Leon and Wendy look forward to having you on board the luxurious Swish, to pampering and indulging you in your favourite water sport, strolling on the beach, to gourmet dining or just plain relaxing, soaking in the delights of the Caribbean, sipping a cocktail.

SWISH Testimonials

Jan. 9/12.. New Crew Leon and Wendy

> Hello Miss Wendy. Of course I would recommend you BOTH to the moon stars and back again. For future sailors you will be in no better hands than Captain Leon and First and "Best" Mate Wendy, you will have the time of your lives. We had the most fabulous time with both of them and you will never get a better meal than what Wendy "whips" up every time. Not only is her food absolutely awesome but the presentation was always perfect. There is not much they don't know and can't help with, even to the extent when I got a stomach bug and was heaving over the side of the yacht and Wendy was holding my hair and providing a cold cloth of nowhere. Your only worry should be that you can swim enough so you don't go home with an extra 10 pounds. Oh then her cocktails are over the top, a new one every day. Captain Leon is so experienced and confident, his abilities are amazing and so knowledgeable about both the water conditions and the sea life. But the best of all was their love of people and one another and their surroundings. They are extremely easy to be with right from the first minute you meet them. My only regret is that it will be you this time cruising with them instead of me... ENJOY BrendaRae and Emil Havner Palmer, Alaska xoxoxoxox

It was my BEST VACATION EVER  by FAR… and Karey’s too!  We have our book of photos from the trip on our coffee table and I look at if often and remember you both fondly.

We do want to return on a sailing trip.  I have been talking to my two (non RCI) sisters and husbands about doing this so maybe one day we can join you!  (My youngest sisters says we will have to wait till she has both of her kids out of college.)

Stay in touch and hope you enjoy everything about your new adventures.

XO,

Donna and Karey

Hi Wendy and Leon

We will be going on another sailing trip at end of March 2013.  Angela and I were talking about what we might get on this trip and I could only hope that it would be at least 1/2 as much of the wonderful experience we received when we were in the BVI's with both of you.

I must say that the BVI trip that  you and Leon hosted was the best trip we have had since we have been members of Tradewinds Cruise Club.  We have been on at least 8 trips already and I must compliment you both as wonderful hosts.  From the time we stepped on the boat, we were felt completely comfortable.  You both made everyone feel welcome and you helped everyone mix together and get to know each other.  All during the trip we found that you as a couple participated with the other members who were on the boat but yet you were always attentive to your task of sailing the ship comfortably for the safety and benefit of the members.  When work had to be done in the kitchen, Wendy made a point of letting us know work had to be done and that she would rejoin us as soon as she could.

The presentation and taste of the food was excellent for the whole trip.  Leon's talents on the barbecue are superlative and both Leon and Wendy did an excellent job in getting everything ready for all the meals.  The sundown cocktails were always excellent and done with variety so it was a point to look forward to during the trip.  We also had about 3 members on board who had some dietary allergies and likes and dislikes in food.  These were handled very well by Wendy and Leon so that everyone had an enjoyable meal experience.

Leon is an excellent sailor and even though we had some blustery winds which created rougher water, Leon handled the boat with skill and confidence so as to relax a sometimes uncomfortable passenger like myself.

In closing, I can not do enough to praise our hosts and hope they do well in the future.  It would be an enjoyable privilege to sail with them in the future.

Kindest Regards to both of you

Don Goyan and Angela Shalla

Wendy/Leon

I imagine you get pictures of yourselves all the time, so I figured I might as well contribute to your stack.

We enjoyed our cruise SO much and haven't given up hope for buying the six-pack to come again.  Larry's job is still up in the air although some talks have begun.  We just don't know if they'll do anything positive and if so, if it will be next week or 6 months from now.

Again, thanks for a super time.  You're both wonderful people people - I know, since it takes one to know one, and I'm one too - and we wish we could have kept sailing and sailing with you.

The Alabama welcome mat is always out - just say the word and the dogs and we will open the door of our Southern hospitality!

Hi Wendy and Leon,

I just wanted to reach out and say hello. I am pretty much acclimated to real life again but keep playing the game of “where was I?” two weeks ago. It was truly a great experience for both Steve and I and we would love to do it again someday. This time we’re bringing friends!

Here’s a couple of shots from the trip I thought you might like. I know Liz is putting together a little something for you in which I contributed some other photos. The one of the rainbow is my favorite. I think we were the only ones to witness it that morning in Long Bay (I think) as the others were still done below.

I wish you all the best for the holidays and hope you are blessed with fair weather and guests as terrific as the ones on your maiden voyage in BVI! J

Take care,

Irene and Steve McCarty

Hi Wendy-

We miss you and Leon so much.  We are all still having dreams of still being on the boat. I think our (Sheldon, Zahra and me) next sailing trip will have to wait until January 2013.  I will call the base to see what week(s) you are sailing and book the whole boat.

I have attached one photo of the two of you - it is a huge file - I'll send more when I can shrink them. And we are sending to you a ship's log - I hope to have it in the mail to you in the next few days.

You work so hard - get some rest this coming week.

Love,

Liz, Zahra & Sheldon
