CREW PROFILE Captain Paul PrestonBorn in England and educated in the US, Captain Preston’s career in the yachting and hospitality industries spans two decades. He has 15 years experience as captain of private and charter vessels, sail and power, up to 116 feet in length. Paul is a certified dive instructor and dive master whose two years on the staff of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s Hydrolab experiments earned him the title of Aquanaut. He enjoys fishing and providing guests with the catch of the day whenever possible. A man of many talents, Paul earned a degree from the University of Hartford (Connecticut) with majors in music and communications. He produced and directed programs for PBS before turning all his attention to sailing. Like many professional sailors, Paul takes the occasional extended shore leave. In 2000, he bought and restored a Victorian house in Newport, Rhode Island and created a very successful bed & breakfast inn. Paul combines a charmingly understated dry wit with a can-do attitude. He is an attentive host as well as an excellent sailor. Paul holds a USCG 1600 Gross Tons License and British DOT Certificate of Equivalent Competency with Class four Deck Command Endorsement.
