TAZA MAS Crew Profile

Captain David Shafer
Dave has been cruising and racing for 15 years. His first sailing experience was aboard Melges racing scows on the lakes of the Midwest. The love of sailing took him to Florida's West Coast where he met his wife, Amy. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he gained extensive sailing experience delivering new yachts in the North Atlantic.
Dave worked in Florida and the San Juan Islands for the world famous Steve Colgate's Sailing School as an offshore instructor and as Captain on Dennis Conner's Stars and Stripes catamaran.
When it comes to water sports, he enjoys teaching as much as participating. He is a qualified instructor for sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling and water-skiing. Dave holds a USCG Masters License and is a PADI Divemaster. He also mixes a pretty tasty cocktail.
Chef Amy Shafer
Amy has a great passion for the culinary arts and has spent the last seven years as a professional chef aboard charter and private yachts. She is from Toronto, Canada where she studied graphic design. A keen interest in health and fitness led her to become a nutritional consultant.
In London, England Amy attended an advanced course at Pru Leith?s Culinary Institute. She loves to prepare indigenous foods. Her menus include the freshest local ingredients. Amy is happy to create a special menu to suit your specific tastes.
She acquired offshore sailing experience delivering yachts from New England to the Caribbean. Amy is also a PADI Divemaster with Medic/First aid. Her hobby of stargazing makes her the perfect instructor on the constellations that grace the Caribbean night sky. Amy will ensure the standard of service remains at the highest level to guarantee a luxurious and relaxing cruise.
Dave and Amy have extensive knowledge of the Caribbean and a reputation for providing a carefree and relaxed atmosphere. They look forward to hosting your vacation aboard TAZA MAS.
