THE CURE Crew Profile
Marcus Squires and Ruth Draper
Marcus and Ruth are an energetic and professional team, who have worked together running charter yachts in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Pacific for the last few years. Whether you prefer to relax onboard in secluded locations or try out the toys onboard, Marcus and Ruth will make sure you have the best possible sailing holiday experience.
Marcus, from Frome, Somerset, spent 14 years in the fire service before embarking on a career in the yachting industry.
Initially only looking to take a career break, he developed a passion for sailing. This led to a full-time position in Sydney, Australia teaching international students all levels of the RYA syllabus as an Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor. His passion for water sports are evident as in his spare time he can be found strapped to a wakeboard, dive tank or kite. His calm and patient manner with all age groups ensure a fun and relaxed atmosphere onboard and he is keen to pass on his knowledge of sailing to those interested. He has a keen interest in racing, having taken part in sailing regattas in Ireland, Australia and the South Coast of England
Ruth, born in Somerset but raised in Mid-Wales, first took to sailing yachts whilst serving four years in the Royal Navy as a Hydrographic Survey Recorder. After leaving the Navy, Ruth continued her travels in Australia and New Zealand working in various restaurants where her enjoyment of cooking started. After two years there she then returned to the UK to continue working in the hospitality industry, training as a cocktail bartender, then as bar and restaurant manager in a busy Oxford establishment. Ruth’s adventurous side called her back to Australia to complete her 5-month Diving Instructors course where she met Marcus. Ruth’s quest to provide healthy balanced meals, whilst using the freshest local ingredients, will pay close attention to any special requests and dietary needs
Marcus and Ruth are both enthusiastic about outdoor sports. They are willing to show anyone the ropes on the wakeboard or for certified divers Ruth can guide you around the best dive sites. Together Marcus and Ruth make a perfect team, nothing is too much trouble to make your holiday extra special. They look forward to greeting you onboard and giving you a charter to remember!
Please welcome Jo as a wonderful addition to the crew. Jo is Ruth's sister and was born in Oxford and also raised in Mid-Wales. She too took to the ocean waves and joined the royal Navy as a Survey Recorder. After serving for just over 5 years and with a gulf war medal under her belt she left the navy and embarked on a career as a self employed hydrographic data processor. Jo's job has taken her all over the world to places such as Australia, Indonesia and the Caribbean among others mapping the sea bed. Jo is a very bubbly and friendly person and is always willing to help others. She is very close with both Ruth and Marcus and will work well as part of the onboard team.
