Crew Profile

Captain: Stephen de Klerk

  - Nationality-USA

Steve was born in South Africa and first got involved in the world of boating by racing sail boats of many sizes along the African coast line. The bug had bitten, but it was not until he embarked on a circumnavigation in 1998 that he truly knew what he wanted to do some day. After making it to Hawaii, changing plans, and sailing back to San Francisco, Steve settled in the sailing hub of the East Coast, Newport, RI. he worked on the 1968 America's Cup winner, Columbia, which he match raced on in the Narragansett Bay day by day and bartended at night. He attempted to settle down with a land-based career, but after many years off the water he was compelled to return to it. He started as the first mate on T-ZERO and later advanced to his current position as Captain of T-ZERO. He has cruised the waters up and down the East Coast of the United States, pacific, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and the British Virgin Islands, where the yacht is currently located for the 2015 boating season. With his extensive hospitality experience, PADI certification and love of all water sports including surfing, sailing, scuba diving, free diving, and paddling all sorts of water craft, guests can be assured that Steve will show them an unforgettable experience that is specifically tailored to their needs and guaranteed to be one they will never forget.

Kevin Isley (as of25th July)

Kevin Isley, a resident of North Carolina, grew up in a family of aviation enthusiasts and dreamed of becoming a commercial pilot. It wasn’t until he moved to the coast that he found a new love for the water and set his sights on a maritime career. His aviation background made for an easy transition. Kevin has participated in almost every big game fishing tournament along the East Coast and enjoys sharing this love and ability with guests and friends alike. He also enjoys surfing and paddle boarding. Kevin prides himself in making sure that his guest’s needs are well catered to and they leave with wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

Melissa Rumsey:

Melissa Rumsey was born and raised in Wrightsville Beach, NC, a small coastal town with beautiful beaches and a diverse food scene.  After completing a business degree and attaining her license as an esthetician, Melissa opened a holistic healing spa in her hometown, where she eventually crossed paths with the crew of T-Zero.

Captivated by her loving energy, the team invited her to join them on one of their coastal voyages. This reignited her love for the water and when the opportunity as chef presented itself, she knew it was meant to be. Her ongoing love affair with food has provided a solid foundation for her cooking creativity. Melissa possesses a passion for creating balanced and delicious meals. Her radiant personality, paired with her attention to detail and wonderful hospitality will ensure that your experience on T-Zero is unforgettable.

Testimonials

Our entiregroup had an incredible time and really enjoyed Steve and Seth. Steve was a great captain and he and Seth always had our best interest in mind and attended to our every possible need and want.  From the moment we stepped on board,we knew we had made the perfect choice.  Both were excellent tour guideswith an extensive knowledge of the Bahamas and the water. The crew even linedup a chef to come aboard and prepare all meals – we never had to lift afinger!  They were fun to hang out with too – we enjoyed their company andit was hard to say goodbye.

Steve andSeth did an amazing job of making sure everyone was happy and taking great carethat our expectations were always met.   You can tell that they bothlove what they do and there is no place they would rather be.

We lovedT-Zero and the way she was appointed.  Snorkel gear?  Check. Rafts for lounging in the beautiful blue water?  Check.  The boat haslots of space to relax and take in the views as well as comfortable cabins forwhen we turned in late in the evenings.

In 2014, my wife and I and two other couples had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend four nights andfive days on "Tzero".  We knew that traveling the Grand Exuma'son a 90 foot yacht would be an amazing experience.

What we didn't realize isthat it would be a transformative one.  So much so that a year laterwe are still talking about the trip and trying to figure out the next time wecan get on there. Our yacht trip changed from a one-time "bucketlist" trip to a "got to do it at least every two years" trip.

The crew was so outstandingit's hard to put words to it. We made most of the decisions with them prior toleaving which created such an amazing carefree-experience.  The crewturned a beautiful trip into a transformative one.  I can't thank themenough. All the details that made our trip so carefree was due to the crew'sattention to the details behind the scenes.  I live a very busy andstressful life and for those five days it was truly pure bliss for my wife andI.

The yacht was simply beautifuland had all the amenities you could ask for. It also had all the right amountsof separation giving all three couples the privacy and secludedness we were alllooking for.

We can't wait to go again. What else can I say.

Thanks again!
