TZIGANE IX Crew Profile

Steeve & Ingrid St. Covat have a combined 46 years in chartering.  Together they have owned many yachts, notably TZIGANE I through TZIGANE IX, and also chartered for four years aboard the 140’ schooner NEPTUNE III.   They have sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and throughout the Caribbean.  After taking a few years ashore in Jacksonville, Florida, Steeve and Ingrid found their yearning for the sea, especially the Caribbean Islands, had not abated and purchased TZIGANE IX to return to chartering.

Capt. Steeve St. Covat, French, mid-fifties, was born in Budapest, Hungary, where he studied engineering in his youth, going on to finish his studies in England.  As if a life cruising the Greek Islands, the Riviera, and the Caribbean weren't excitement enough, Steeve also worked as a professional race car driver until 1969 for Saab!  During this time, through a typographical error, he earned the extra "e" in his name, and for some reason it stuck, becoming something of a trademark.  Steeve has a creative side.  He enjoys designing and painting, Greek and Russian folk music and classical music.  For relaxation he plays chess and loves to fish.

Ingrid St. Covat, German, met her husband in Paris while studying languages and working as a translator. Most sailors start out on small boats and sailing dinghies, but Ingrid learned to sail on a 140’ yacht off the coast of France.  Since meeting Steeve she has sailed for 20 years, literally cooking her way around the world. Her cuisine specialties include French, German, and Mediterranean dishes.  Ingrid’s interests are wide ranging – history, literature, Greek art and antiques, and she loves languages.  She particularly enjoys cruising with children.

TZIGANE IX Testimonials

It was incredible!  We had a wonderful time with Ingrid and Steeve and enjoyed the sea, weather and the lazy-times as much as the food and the companionship from Ingrid and Steeve. Tzigane was a perfect choice - thank you very much for your help.  We decided to sail down to Union Island and fly back - so we had enough time to explore the southern islands.

New Years 2010-11 charter guest comments

Dear Steeve and Ingrid,

Your task was not easy.  We found you at the last minute, after our sailing cruise to the Chagres (?) islands, our dream for years, was cancelled due to the horrible tsunami wave on December 26, 2004.  To bring up our depressed  spirit(s) was a very challenging job.  A job that Ingrid and Steeve did very well.  We all  enjoyed really very much this vacation.  Twelve days of full We had a dancing night, with a lot of fun.

In summary:  mission completed!!  Thank you very much.  We hope to see you again soon.

"A fantastic vacation.  The yacht was very comfortable and less rocky than the single hulled vessels I've been on.   Ingrid and Steeve were GREAT. Fantastic sense of humor, very accommodating, SUPERB with kids, cordial and entertaining.  Ingrid's food was delicious and plentiful.  A dream vacation."

??your expert ?Captaining? made us feel we were in the best of hands during the exciting sail down to Bequia through the squalls.  Your suggestions of places to go were the best.  It?s hard to believe the little bays really existed, as the settings were just amazing.  The chef?s culinary skills and presentation of every meal was incredible.  We kept being amazed and delighted by the wonderful food as each day passed.  We can?t remember when we have felt so well cared for.?

            - Price party, February 2003

Tzigane has, "an able captain with a witty and unique personality.  The chef is a wonderful cook.  They provided us with good sailing ideas relating to island choices given the weather conditions, they were right on target.  The chef made us all feel welcome aboard.  Her smile was contagious.  The captain, always the 'master' also told many a joke and tale - and could take as well as give.  All in all we all came away very happy and satisfied with our adventure.  It was a return to many treasured past vacations sailing and otherwise down island for us.  Who could ask for anything more."

 ? Benazzo party, June 2001

" This was our first yachting charter, it was better than we expected.  The crew was very professional, friendly and helpful.  The food was very good and they accommodated food requests for all of us.  The crew planned the itinerary since we did not know the islands.  They did a very satisfying job.  The yacht was well maintained, clean and ready for us when we arrived.  What we liked most was how very relaxed and well taken care of we felt."

 - Bartlett family, May 2001

" ?we all want to thank you for one of our best vacations.   It was beautiful, relaxing, delicious and fun.  You all were superior hosts, so gracious.  Ingrid I am not getting on the scale for at least a week. As we sat in the airports looking at sandwiches wrapped in plastic we all remembered our favorite meals."
