Steeve & Ingrid St. Covat have a combined 46 years in chartering. Together they have owned many yachts, notably TZIGANE I through TZIGANE IX, and also chartered for four years aboard the 140’ schooner NEPTUNE III. They have sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and throughout the Caribbean. After taking a few years ashore in Jacksonville, Florida, Steeve and Ingrid found their yearning for the sea, especially the Caribbean Islands, had not abated and purchased TZIGANE IX to return to chartering.
Capt. Steeve St. Covat, French, mid-fifties, was born in Budapest, Hungary, where he studied engineering in his youth, going on to finish his studies in England. As if a life cruising the Greek Islands, the Riviera, and the Caribbean weren't excitement enough, Steeve also worked as a professional race car driver until 1969 for Saab! During this time, through a typographical error, he earned the extra "e" in his name, and for some reason it stuck, becoming something of a trademark. Steeve has a creative side. He enjoys designing and painting, Greek and Russian folk music and classical music. For relaxation he plays chess and loves to fish.
Ingrid St. Covat, a German, met her husband in Paris while studying languages and working as a translator. Most sailors start out on small boats and sailing dinghies, but Ingrid learned to sail on a 140’ yacht off the coast of France. Since meeting Steeve she has sailed for 20 years, literally cooking her way around the world. Her cuisine specialties include French, German, and Mediterranean dishes. Ingrid’s interests are wide ranging – history, literature, Greek art and antiques, and she loves languages. She particularly enjoys cruising with children.
