Captain IAN STUART grew up in York, Maine and spent his summers cruising the coast on his father’s sailboat. Ian began teaching sailing during his summers in high school and continued to teach throughout college. After receiving his BA in Sociology from Saint Lawrence University, he went on to teach sailing at the prestigious OCSC in Berkley, California.
In 2001 he sailed his father’s 35 foot sailboat to the Virgin Islands where he began working as a charter captain. In 2002 he met his wife Birute and they quickly began working on 80 foot private sailing yachts together. With Ian as Captain and Birute as Chef they worked together for nine years sailing throughout the Caribbean and the East Coast. They now have a six year old son and are based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Ian made the transition to Motor Yachts in 2011 and upgraded his license to a US Coast Guard 500 ton. He enjoys repairing yachts just as much as driving them and being on the ocean. Aboard Jopaju he wears the hats of both Captain and Engineer.
