VISION Crew Profile
Pablo “Paul” Gibson
I’m 33 years old , was born in Argentina, and have been sailing since I was a kid, passing through most of the dinghy classes including Optimist, Cadet, Laser, Snipe, Soling, etc.
I own a 30ft sloop and have sailed it back and forth over the last decade as much as time allows. My sailing experience in racing, cruising and chartering is quite a lot and added to this I gathered valuable knowledge regarding charter operations whilst working in Angra dos Reis, Brazil where I managed a charter company with a 8/11 yacht fleet all Beneteau & Lagoon. Receiving clients, briefing them on the navigation area, dangers, anchorages, etc., briefing of the boats and their different equipments, maintenance, general admin, and skippering the yachts were some of my responsibilities. I also entered several team building courses in which I deeply enjoyed passing on my knowledge on navigation, sail trimming, race crews organization, etc.
I would like to outline that I assisted the technical course given at the St. Gilles, France Beneteau shipyard (2005) regarding all maintenance aspects of these yachts.
I also hold a commercial aircraft pilot license multi engine and instruments rating issued by the Argentinean AirForce.
This, together with my sailing experience, guarantees great expertise on navigation, weather forecasting, safety, engines, crew resource management, first aid, customer service, etc.
Below are some of the races/deliveries I have done/entered over the last 15 years, the most recent on the “Matrero” 50ft Frers, yacht skippered by me over the last 5 years.
- 5 deliveries (1100NM)Bs.As., Argentina / Ilhabela,Brazil of the “Matrero” a 50ft Frers sloop built in 1970.
- 5 Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week champion ship raced on the Matrero of which 4 were won in our category.
- Raced the 1996 regatta Buenos Aires / Rio de Janeiro on the “Shadai” 43ft ketch.
- Raced the 2000 regatta Buenos Aires / Florianopolis on the “Shadai” 43ft ketch.
- Delivery of the “Sin Patria” (600NM) a 31ft sloop Bs. As., Argentina to Florianopolis, Brazil.
- Raced several years in Buenos Aires double handed on the yacht “Reckless II” a 34ft sloop.
- Raced aprox. 10 Bs. As. / Punta del Este, Uruguay (180NM) Circuito Atlántico Sur Rolex Cup champion ship on several boats ranging from 40 to 60ft of which the last 5 were won on the yacht “Matrero”.
- Raced 7/8 Buquebus Bs. As. / Punta del este (180NM) on several different yachts.
- Have made innumerable deliveries to and from Bs. As. / Uruguay 30/40NM.
Juliana Siqueira
I’m 24 years old , was born in Brazil and have been sailing for the last 10 years and it all started with my family. While reforming a small boat we bought in Sao Paulo I had the chance to train with some of the best competitors of classes Laser and 420. At the same time I developed a real passion for water sports photography and went to college to study digital photography. At this stage I already had been to the Arts School for 2 years to study acting, dancing and singing. I met many sailors in few months and in 2006 I was contracted to work on a 72' ketch as deckhand from Ilhabela to Fortaleza(2000NM), Brazil. This trip gave me more experience regarding open sea navigation. I was always keen to exchange turns to cook with my colleagues as I´ve been cooking since I was 7 years old and I quite enjoy it!!!
These last few years I´ve been on several deliveries to and from different ports along the Southern Atlantic Ocean.
I always loved to help communities as a volunteer in educational projects. I met the NGO Vento em Popa in 2006. They build their own boat called Saracura and teach poor kids sailing, boat building and environment preservation. It was important to see how sailing could change those kids's life. I worked with them for a couple of years.
My vast experience in sail making is based on working during three years at BK Sails , Sao Paulo, owned by my father, Alexandre.
After living in New Zealand for 2 years, I decided to go back to Sao Paulo to visit family and work with them in building a new 33ft racing boat on their own, all amateur construction.
And now, fortunately I was invited to be part of this amazing project: Vision! This makes me very happy as I can finally work at things that I love to do such as sailing, hiking, cooking, photography and meeting people from all around the world. I also want to bring on board some of the happiest Brazilian and South American music and culture. On rainy days - or whenever the passangers might enjoy, they can join my kitchen and I will share some of my Brazilian cooking secrets. I will also be happy to exhibit my pictures of the cruise to everyone after dinner. All kids like spending time with me and it will be a pleasure to teach them how to snorkel and play pirate games!
I aim to make everyone on board feel like they are at home and have a great relaxing time whilst enjoying great outdoor activities, lovely cuisine and good music. Fell free to check out our library, pick up a movie or come to the deck to taste my vast selection of evening cocktails such as caipirinhas, mojitos, bloody mary, etc. See you onboard!
