WINDSTAR Crew Profile
Captain Ed Ray has been boating for 40 years from his early days fishing around the Golden Isles of Georgia, to the turquoise waters of the Bahamas and the wilds of the Amazon River. Ed’s love for sailing has taken us from the coast of Florida, to the islands of the Caribbean and beyond. Ed holds a USCG 50 ton Master License, STCW-95 certificate and several ASA sailing certificates. Ed’s passion for sailing and fishing is rivaled by his art for grilling. He has grilled many delectable specialties such as Lobster, Steak, Fish and Ribs for friends and family outings and now grills these delights aboard WindStar on his custom grill from Australia. Ed’s love of life and people forged his decision to share his experiences with other people through chartering.
Kathleen has shared 40 years of boating with Ed and has an intense love for the sea. Kathleen has been both an R.N. and Registered Pharmacist but always dreamed of sailing away to tropical climes. She has had a love for cooking and entertaining for friends, family and always spearheaded special events such as executive dinners and Holiday Open Houses. Kathleen also holds a USGC 50 ton Master license and a STCW-95 certificate as well as, several certificates from the American Sailing Association.
The crew of WindStar has had many sailing adventures and work well as a team. Ed and Kat bought WindStar in February of 2004 and over the next few years performed a total refit from the bilges up, performing much of the work themselves. Ed and Kat have sailed extensively throughout the Caribbean and want to share these wonderful experiences and their enthusiasm for sailing and cruising with other people wanting to do the same.

Thank you so much for the amazing trip. You took us to places we wouldn’t had known to see and visit. And the food! The food was incredible! Thank you for taking it easy on Erika since it was her first time sailing. You are great hosts and so good at what you do! Thank you!!! Erika MacLaren Ken Miller

Ed and Kat,
Thank you so much for such a wonderful vacation! We absolutely loved every minute of our trip – the food was fantastic and our stops around the islands were well-planned (especially taking into account the wind!) This was a wonderful introduction to sailing – we will let you know once we have purchased our first boat!! All in all, you have made this a very special way to spend our 10th anniversary.
Love, Darcy & Jamie (aka “sharkboy”)
November 2011 - The Perfect Birthday!
Dear Kat and Ed:
What a way to celebrate my birthday! You two made my special occasion more special than I had envisioned. You know all the fun, party places. We felt more like friends than guests as you made us feel at home in your floating home.
Windstar is such a beauty, so comfortable while being cozy enough and spacious enough to feel just right. We had no idea we would be able to see so much of both the US and British Virgin Islands in a week. So much beauty.
Every meal was outstanding. Kat, you are truly a chef and Ed’s grilling offers the perfect complement.
Thank you for such a special vacation.
Yours fondly, John and Martha
October 2011:
We have traveled the world and our favorite vacation has been Sailing on WindStar with Ed and Kat. We did the Old Year’s Night at Foxey’s one year which was an absolute blast. We have done St Martin twice and Grenada with them and are currently booked for our favorite place, the VI, for February. The cocktails and the dining experience were fabulous. The relaxation and fun is what it is all about and WindStar is the place to be - to see the beauty of the Islands in a unique, gorgeous and very personal way. Perfect Honeymoon:
We recently got married in St. John at Trunk Bay, and did a one week honeymoon on the "Windstar." Our honeymoon was the most incredible week of our life, because of our own "private cruise" on the Windstar.
We saw 7 different British and US Virgin Islands. We had the option everday of relaxing, going on land to visit the beautiful islands, or snorkeling/kayaking.
The vacation was great, but the reason that the experience was truly INCREDIBLE was the FOOD and the COMPANY.
Eating at the windstar was comparable to eating at a five star restaurant. Some favorites were: fresh swordfish, lobster tail, steak, and the french toast!
The crew did a great job of making the experience very special. They knew when to offer us suggestions of "things to do," or give us privacy. They were great company, acted liked experienced professionals, and became our friends by the end of the trip.
I strongly recommend the Windstar to anyone considering chartering a boat in the Carribean.
