YES DEAR Crew Profile

CREW PROFILE
Ian and Jody - Summer 2012 and Winter 2013
Ian is an MCA 200 ton Offshore Yacht Master. He is also a certified PADI Dive Master. He has been crewing Voyage 580’s across the Caribbean for two years. In total Ian has been sailing and cruising for close to 20 years. Growing up on the water in Ontario, Canada, he summered and sailed amongst Georgian Bay’s 30,000 islands where he developed his strong sense for navigation and pilotage.
After obtaining an Earth Science degree from Canada’s sailing capital, Halifax Nova Scotia, Ian returned to the Great Lakes to work as a Service Technician and to further explore Canada’s best cruising grounds. After 5 years of work he took his savings and fixed up his beloved sailboat and set sail on an 18 month single-handed voyage from Canada’s cold to the balminess and camaraderie of the cruising community along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and then east to the Bahamas where he immediately fell for the turquoise water, diving, game and spear fishing.
In Jody’s land-bound life she was a post-graduate educated, Human Resources Professional for the Automotive Industry. Although she was fueled by the demanding nature of this profession she spent her free time studying advanced cuisine at the George Brown Culinary Institute in Toronto, Canada and honing her culinary skills by entertaining for family and friends.
In 2005 Ian and Jody purchased another boat with a larger galley which they lived on as they worked their land-bound lives. Always sailing, cooking and entertaining and dreaming of a career that married both their passions. Their personalities already a successful union – Jody’s boundless energy and spirit and Ian’s adaptability, patience and practicality – a career as a crew only made sense.
Ian and Jody’s chartering career has allowed them to share, with their guests the beauty of the British Virgin Islands as well as the Windward and Leeward Islands. Allow this professional and accommodating crew to provide you with a custom vacation of a lifetime.
CREW PROFILE
Richard and Adele - Summer and Fall 2013

He has always been comfortable at the helm of both power and sail boats and has vast experience ranging from keelboats to yachts. He holds a RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certification and has logged in excess of 10,000 miles over the years aboard luxury yachts. His travels include sailing from South Africa to the Hebrides, which are also known as the Western Isles off Scotland. He currently enjoys sailing the warm waters of the Caribbean.
Adele was also raised along the South African coast and has always loved the sea. She is a master diver and enjoys sharing her skills body boarding and wake boarding. Adele holds diplomas in Public Relations, Events Management, and Conferencing.
Her passion for cooking began at a very young age and has blossomed into a career. She has honed her culinary skills by attending a cooking school specifically designed for the maritime industry. Preparing magnificent gourmet meals in a galley is truly an art and Adele’s passion for creating exciting menus, combining fresh ingredients, and food presentation skills will delight everyone onboard.
Richard and Adele are an easygoing couple who love to meet new people. You will enjoy every moment onboard with them, be it anchoring in a quiet cove, snorkelling fantastic reefs or exploring the BVI nightlife ashore, the choice is yours. Yacht: YES DEAR with Ian Barber & Jody Boyd
Charter Dates: March 17-23, 2013
Area Cruised: Virgin Islands
We hope your charter lived up to your expectations. We would love to know some of your impressions about your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.
1. Was the crew friendly and accommodating?
Ian and Jody went above and beyond any expectation we had made for the trip. Both were extremely welcoming and made us feel comfortable upon arrival. I don't think our experience would have been the same with any other crew.
2. Was the yacht comfortable and clean?
Yes Dear was extremely well maintained and filled with all of our requests. By the end of the trip it truly felt like our homes away from home.
3. Was the yacht well ventilated?
Yes, all of us were extremely comforatble for the duration of our stay.
4. Was the food good and well presented?
Jody and Ian were all-stars. We are still in disbelief of the variety of cuisines offered. It is remarkable the amount Jody was able to create in the kitchen space. Her cooking was some of the best we've experienced and Ian's contributions were also top notch.
5. Did you like the area you sailed?
Most of us were new to the area and were blown away at the sights. Even those returning said some of the new spots visited were better than ones they had seen on previous charters. The crew had wonderful suggestions and were extremely open to how we wanted the days to play out. Looking back, pictures don't do any of the locations justice.
6. Could we have helped you further in any way?
No. All of our expectations were met and then some.
7. May we post this review on our website?
Yes
8. Additional comments on your charter?
Our entire group would like to thank the hard as well as the stellar performance done by Jody and Ian. By the end of our time there, it was like we all knew each other for years. All of us felt extremely special and did not want to return to our average lives back home. Parting with the crew was the worst part of the journey and we've already invited them to visit us all in Chicago soon! I don't think any of us could recommend a vacation more! Job well done to all!!

We really did not want to leave Ian and Jody yesterday and just wish we could have brought them wiith us to San Juan, Puerto Rico where I am writing this at this moment. We felt like they were part of our family by the end of the week. We thank you, for all of your good advice as to choice of yachts and crew. It was the perfect one for us and brought our far flung family back together again, for a real long needed reunion from Hawaii, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, NM and Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas. I am recommending you to all of my friends who would enjoy this type of vacation. Barb
Crewed Charter Yes Dear, July 2012
With Ian and Jody aboard —
Dear Ian and Jody?I truly enjoyed meeting you both and now, having been on a charter, it is easy to see how a crew can easily make or break your trip and without a doubt you both definitely made our trip! I would definitely give you guys nothing less than 100 out of 10! I will save the capable captain, fabulous chef, wonderful host/hostess speech because that is so clearly obvious. What is not so obvious, unless you take a moment to look, is the poetry in motion as you both go about your day on the sea making everything look so effortless and seamless despite the fact that truly nothing is, however, you somehow managed to pull it off so we can relax and enjoy our vacation.
We thank you so much for that because we know it is not always sunny skies and wind in your sails for you guys but you always did whatever you could to make sure it always was for us. We so enjoyed your light-heart, quiet wit and sense of humor Ian, you filled our days with smiles and laughs and you are just plain fun to be around and on top of all that you know how to drive a boat, fix a bunch of stuff and mix some awesome concoctions!
Jody you inspire me to be better organized, more efficient and more on top of my game, you demand a lot of yourself and set a high standard that I hope to marginally meet myself one day and on top of all that, you too, are just a delight to be around!
Well, coming from two old folks 'living the minivan dream' both Gary and I truly admire your sense of adventure and your courage to venture outside of the status quo so you can experience the world. You have both inspired me to be more adventurous and ignited a sense of wanderlust. You are both wonderful, delightful and an inspiration and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you both for the best week of my life!

Crewed Charter Yes Dear, 2012
Richard and Adele aboard —
Our vacation was everything we had hoped and more. Richard and Adele were topnotch. 2 of the nicest people any of us had ever met. Their respect for us and the boat was superior. They went out of their way to show us the best of the BVI..beaches snorkling, sailing caving, beach bars..it was all great. The meals were 5 star, accommodations were wonderful and of course
sailing and traveling from island to island and enjoying the beautiful BVI. The care and respect shown to both the boat and to us was incredible. I cannot imagine 2 better people with whom to spend a week.
We will be back!! Thanks for your help.
Diane
